Buildings
(Special to The Herald.)
McALLKX Texas. June 19.—Erec-
tion of a modern concrete fireproof
high school building herd together
with the conversion of the present
high school building into a big ward
school was assured today when vot-
ers of the McAllen independent
school district approved a $325000
bond issue. There were 34H votes
cast 315 for. 32 against and one
thrown out. The voters also ap-
proved the maintenance tax by a
vote of 296 for and 39 against.
There will be a new high school
building erected here and plans are
to be worked out soon. A meeting
of the school board will be held
Mnoday night at which time a con-
ference will be held with architects
in regards to plans and specifica-
tions lor the new- building. Bonds
will be aold and bids are to be asked

In addition to the new high school
building and the conversion of the
old structure now used to house the
institution into a ward school there
are to be several changes made in
V other smaller schools in the district.

GIVEN A BANQUET
EDINBURG. Texas June 19.—With
speeches banquet and song the
members of the Edinburg and Wes-
laco Knights of Pythias lodges cele-
brated at Weslaco Thursday night

over the Weslaco lodge in a recent
membershin contest. The banquet
was given by the Weslaco lodge with
; the Edinburg knights und their ladies
| as guests of honor.
Judge John P. Gause of Mercedes
was toastmaster and presented Judge
R. E. Erwin of Weslaco for an ad-

Bonner of Houston past grand
chancellor of the %rcler in Texas
spoke “To the Ladies.” Gentry Du-
gat discussed the Dramatic Order of
Knights of Khorassan playgroumfor-
ganization of the Pythians.
Judge Neal A. Brown incoming
chancellor commander of the local
lodge presented a ring to Judge J.
C. Epperson won as the champion
member getter of the Edinburg lodge.
The latter deliver a response in ac-
ceptance of the beautiful ring. H.
B. Van Vliet of the Weslaco lodge al-
so presented a ring to V. C. Clark
for like vig.lance in that lodge. Judge
W. L. Dawson of Mission in behalf of
Judge ‘Erwin donor presented to the
Edinburg lodge an enlarged picture
of “Uncle Henry” Miller of Weather-
ford Texas grand keeper of records
and seal of Texas for the past 38
years. The picture accepted by the
local lodge was an award to the
lodge receiving the most members
during a recent drive the contest
being waged hetweedti Weslaco and
Edinburg. Over 10ft persons were
seated at the banquet table.
