box. Harlingen kicked oft to Mer-
cedes to open th? game. Mercedes
fumbled on the first play Moncus
picked up thti hobbled pigskin and
raced 30 yards for a touchdown. Lat-
er in that first quarter Baixe ripped
off a thirty-yard run off right end
for another touchdown.
Mercedes swept back the Harlin-
gen eleven in a fierce counter offen-
sive at the opening of the second |
quarter. Moffett completed a pass
for a first down right at the begin-
ning and then Ballafant ripped off
sovcral good gains on end runs. The
Tiger attack was halted on the one-
foot line and the ball went over to
Harlingen. The kick was blocked
behind the goal line the ball soar-
ing into the air and Hinojosa fell
on it for a Mercedes counter. Mof-
fett kicked goal for extra point. On
the kickoff Baize ran 50 yards
straight down the sidelines for what
appeared to be another touchdown
but he had stepped out of bounds.
For the greater part of the period
there was an exchange of punts J.
Fikes matching his kicking against
Baize's running. The wind helped
Fikes and the Cardinals were slow-
ly losing ground until Baize com-
pleted a pass for an initial 30-yard
gain. Lawmen again passed to
Baize for another 25 yards and then
Lawrence plunged over for a touch-
down.
Tigers 6(111 Hope
The Tigers’ hope had in no wise
been dimmed (haring those first two
quaiters and they still considered
their chances good for a comeback.
fiut they did not count on that pow-
rful reserve strength of the- Har-
lingen '* iron man'' eleven. The start
of ihe* second half was the begin-
ning of the end for the Tigers. The
Cardinal backfield was hitting its
devastating yard-gaining stride. The
first big gam was when Baize re-
turned a punX 30 yards and then re-
ceived a pass for 20 more yards.

Lawrence again tossed the oval to
the Red Grange of the Valley and
he galloped over for a touchdown.
Baize kicked successfully for point
and the score was 25 to 7. Therm
was no more scoring done in the
third quurter. Mercedes showed hull-
dog determination and shoved hack
the Cards with two good passes
Pikes to Ohlcg and Pikes to Balla-
fant for 20 and 12 yard gains. The
Tigers took the hall to the 12 yard
line only to lose it on a fumble.
Banneimnn also completed a pass
hut Lawrence broke up the Tiger of-
fensive by intercepting one of th«
aerial thrusts just before the period
ended.
Zarate of Mercedes intercepted ones
of the longest passes tried by Har-
lingen at the opening of the fourth
quarter. Referee Bobby Cannon
penalized the Mercedes fans on the
sideline for interrupting signals and
the Tigers were forced back against
their own goal. Lawrence passed to
Baize for a touchdown. Later Rader
gained 40 yards on a tackle-ucross
play and Baize again went over. Red
Lawrence and Baize began tearing
up the stalwart Tiger eleven in real
earnest in the remaining few min-
utes Lawrence making one touch-
down with an end run and another
with a 50-yard dash around end
from midfield. Mercedes was offside
on the try for point and Harlingen
was given the point making a total
of 50.

not withstand the “Cardinal ava-

Each team had one injury. Carter
Pikes of Mercedes got his first op-

kicked and the score was 12 to 7.
Kdinburg later carried the ball to the
McAllen seven yard line where it
was lost on a fumble.

its own goal lire. The hall was kick-
ed 50 yards and then rolled another
50 behind the Kdinburg goal line
with the wind carrying it along. Kd-
inburg made another drive which
took the hi.ll to the middle of the

work intercepting a pass and car-
rying the ball to his own seven yard

Hamilton Texas.—Mrs. Gladys
Poitevmt of this city says: “At
times I suffered awfully with pains
across my hack and through my
sides. I would have to go to bed
and stay two or three days at a
time. It was very worrisome. I
managed to keep going but ... did
not enjoy myself at all.
“One dav my mother remarked on
how bad 1 looked. She said: ‘You
look so pale and peaked why don t
you take a bottle of Cardui?’ She
had taken it herself a number of
times and it had always improved
her health so she thought I had
better try it.
“1 got the Cardui and began tak-
ing it and from the first dose or
two 1 could see a change for the
better. The first thing 1 noticed
was that mv appetite was improved.
I began to be hungry and I enjoyed
my meals. I slept better at night.
My rest was so much quieter that 1
got the benefit from it I kept on
with the Cardui and took it for
several months. The pains in my
back and sides grew less until they
finally quit bothering me.”
