under no circumstances to let Leon-
ard Cline playwright and novelist
whose friend Wilfred Irwing of
New Yoia city died last night from
a wound received at Cline's Mans-
field farm yesterdaty out of their
sight. This order followed the dis-
covery of a noose in Cline’s home
which the county investigator b -
Sieves may have been pit-pared l-y
Cline with suicidal intent.
• ’line today was recovering from
a blood transfusion performed in an
attempt to save Irwin’s life for
whicn he gave a pint of blood.
No formal charges placed against
him pending a coroner’s hearing.
An autopsy show d that the wound
that resulted in Irwin’s death had
been caused by a shotgun betwe- ;i
sixty and eighty slugs lodging in
the right side. The shooting Cline
ss-d. was accidental.
Police have been unable to locate
Irwin’s wile who was a week end
visitors a tthe Cline home- ( line's
wife has not been at Mansfield for
some time.

ranged here by the Weslaco Cham-
ber of Commerce was made today by

the short course and has invited
people from all parts of the Villtjr
to be present. It has also sent out
word requesting those who want
special subjects discussed to write

grave fears for the safety of many
I residents' east of Opelousas unless
they evacuated quickly.
He indicated that he believed it
might become necessary to take many
of the people from the area by mili-
tary force.
Below Opelousas between the At-
chalufaya river and Arnaudville the
low country is only ten miles wide
and it is there where the current will
be the swiftest that the danger xon**
is believed to lie.
Many Town* Submerged
Towns above Opelousas were re-
ported under water at depths vary-
ing from sis to fifteen feet. Opel-
ousas. on highland was expected to
be made headquarters for 5000 re-
fugees.
At Plaucheville bearing the brunt
of the flood 150 persons were being
cared for at a convent on high land.
A hundred of those were living in the
homes of the priests. Bunkie cit-
isens and a train load of relief work-
ers in boats were combing the ter-
ritory around Cottonport.

Will Set Date
The date soon is to be set for the
state tax collectors convention to be
h-.-ld in Brownsville this summer ac-
cording to G. C. Richardson manager
of the Chamber of Commerce who
is awaiting word from the secretary
of the state organisation.

son. that the convention will he held
