The Pockrell-Mcllroy well which
has been burning since Saturday
eight milts east of here was ex-
tinguished with TNT about 3 a. ni.
today by Tex Thornton according to
officials of the U. S. Torpedo t om-
pany here.
The well has been reconnected and
oil is now flowing regularly.
Swimming Pool Is
Being Constructed
McAI.LEN Texas June 1.—The M.
R. Nelson swimming pool that is
being constructed on the east Hi-
dalgo Road is nearing completion.
A double shift night and day has
been put on the job and a carload
of cement was delivered to the
seen* of work. The pool proper will
be 100x200 feet oval shaped and
when completed will be one of the
finest in the south.
The plans call for a rose garden
lawns and decorative shrubbery to
beautify the grounds- There will also
be a dancing pavillion and refresh-
ment stand on the premises. It is
expected that water will be turned
into the pool within a few weeks.

— R. W. Hutchins graduate in agri-
culture of the A. & M. College of
Texas who worked his way through
college “keeping batch” with other
boys while he took his college work
was announced Tuesday at the form-
al commencement exercises of the
college as the winner of a 20 acre
farm in the Rio Grande Valley.
Since he graduated from the horti-
cultural department at mid term
February 1 of this year. Hutchins
has been employed at a nursery at
Stephenville.
The 20 acre farm in the third gift
of the sort by the American Rio
Grande Lamd and Irrigation Com-
pany of Mercedes to outstanding
agricultural graduates of Aft M.
Provisions of tha gift require that
the graduate student shall lift upon
and cultivate the land for five yenra
when the company proposes to give
a clear deed to the property.

Homer E. Watkins former immi-
grant inspector of Del Rio is tha
latest addition to the immigration
service here. MV. Watkins was
transferred from Del Rio where he
has served in the department for 9
years. He begun duty yesterday.
