Bone Structure as Well as Age and Height Determine Cor-
rect Poundage—But Chart Will Serve as Valuable
Guide Says Miss Huddleston.
By JOSEPHINE HUDDLESTON
Before checking your weight with the chart given below I want you to
read a few suggestions carefully and take them to heart. .These points
must be understood and borne in mind when consulting this or any simi-
lar weignt scale.
All charts of this kind can only be a generaliza-
tion and must be used merely as a guide that shows
APPROXIMATELY how much each woman should
weigh according to her height and age» It must
not - .ider any circumstances be considered an in-
fallible law. because the different physical structure
of each woman makes any such hard and fast rule
impossible to establish.
For example the woman who has unusually small
bones will find that she actually appears and is
overweight at the poundage given for her age and
height in the scale below. Therefore this woman
can safely subtract four or five pounds from the
weight given in the chart.
It quite naturally follow's then that the woman
JOSEPHINE of large DOne structure will appear thin perhaps
hi mvm remu even gaunt* unless she weighs a few more pounds
nuwixaiiA than are anowe(j for hcr age ^ height
Such weight guides can apply with any degree of absoluteness only
to the woman of average bone structure. It is very imporfcnt. however
that all women should have a fairly definite idea of what their heantifni
weight should be. •
One in my position is constantly
amazed at the number of women
who are reducing without knowing
whether their bodies are overweight
or not. On every hand and in every
mail I learn of girls and women
who think they are overweight and
so are dieting wearing rubber gar-
ments. taking reducing baths or ex-
ercising their supposed avoirdupa.s
into nothing. You. in turn would
be astonished at the large percent-
age of these women that already
are UNDERWEIGHT and therefore
should be building up instead of
blithely and blindly taking off more
flesh all unconscious or uncaring:
that pound by pound they are tear-
ing down the structure of their
bodies just as surely as the founda-
tion of a house is destroyed by the
daily removal of a brick or stone. I
"-—-
The bone structure of every fe-
male body should be covered with
sufficient muscle and fat to give
a delicately rounded contour nor
fat enough for fatty bulges for that
is as unhealthful and unbeautiful
as the proverbial ‘ rag a bone and
a hank of hair.'*
All this is why doctors and scien-
tists compile weight scales or charts
and why beauty editors keep re-
printing them. They act as a guide
so that every woman can keep
about what she should weigh ana
so lead herself into a healthful
beauty that will endure long aft*r
the emaciated shell achieved by
strict dieting has crumpled leaving
a nervous irritable woman devoid
of both beauty and charm.
The weight scale follows:
4 ft. 4 ft. 4 ft. 4 ft. 5 ft. 5 ft. 5 ft. 5 ft. 5 ft.
