Many accidents were caused by
passing on hills; passing on right-
hand side; drivers not having right-
of way; and a large number showed
no improper driving—they just hap-
pened. The driver may have been dial-
ing his radio, looking at an advertis-
ing sign, or tryin \o avoid hitting a
chicken or uuima) crossing the road,
The majority of accidents occurred
when the drivers were apparently nor-
mal. 176 had been drinklug, 11 were I
fatigued or asleep, and 38 were blind
ed by glaring lights. In 21 per cent
of an fatal accidents, the driver had
been drinking, and 21 per cent of the
fatal accidents were head on colli-

No matter how good a driver you
are, sou may be involved in an acci-

be careful—don’t take chances; re-i
spect the other fellow's rights; dim
your lights at night; see that your car
is under control; and don't try to mix
