court the Los Angeles newspaper says.
The grounds for the alleged action
were not given.
The story as it appeared in the Los
Angeles Times reads:
"The Caples family has another sen-
sation in its ranks. This time Mrs.
Vivian T. Caples has sued for "di-
vorce from her husband. Joseph Allen
Caples. It is the last of many excit-
ing complications in the Caples family
since Mrs. Richard Caples widow of
the former mayor of El Paso came to
California with her family.
"At sirs. Ctfples's attractive bunga-
low at 518 Gramercy place the allega-
Caples Dleasantlv assured her inter- I
viewer that they must be kept a secret
for the good of the family in repiy
to successive questions she declared
that the allegation in the action is not
non-support desertion cruelty infi-
delity or incompatibility.
"The interviewer could think of no
others to suggest so'it appears to be
quite a mystery as to Just why Mrs.
Caples is suing for divorce. They
were separated once before in March
191S. but became reconciled. Then
Mr. Caples was alleged to have got into
some difficulties over some mules that
he bought in El Paso and brought to
Los Angeles.
"But Mrs. Caples Insists that it Is
more than mere mules that prompts
her to bring suit for divorce and she
thinks it Is going to be quite a sensa-
tion she says when the trial comes-
Sbe recommended that the newspapers
have representatives in the court room
at the hour of trial."
The same paper says that Caples is
111 In a hospital there suffering from
the effects of steppteg upon a rusty
