Tommy Thinks He Is Grown Up
r-nOMMT TABBT was Just a mite or
ia kitty boy but he used to like
to think that sometimes he was
grown up Every once in a while he
would dress up In his clean trousers
and a clean blouse and make calls.
Now Miss Flax the dolly girl who
Iried wltn his grandmother was a
realiv grown up young lady and
Tommv thought that she - ras the most
beautiful creature in all of Tabbyland.
'When the other kittles found out that
Tommy was fond of Miss Flax they
used to tease him a great deal about
her and he would get very angry. One
afternoon Tommv hid from the other
kitties. They a"ll went off to play
but he stayed at home.
"Mother" he said "have I a clean
set of clothes?" When Mrs. Tabby
heard this question she smiled to her-
self but she did not make fun of Tom.
She knew better than that. She laid
the clean trousers and blouse on the

them with great care. "Going to make
a call?" she asked and Tommy very
gravely nodded his head.
He picked a bunch of flowers and
went down the road very carefully. He
did not stop to loiter on the way nor
did he chase butterflies. He kept
steadily on the road until he came to
his grandmother's home.
Then he knocked on the door of the
little brown house and Miss Flax her-
self came to the door. Tommy said that
he had come to see her and handed her
the flowers. Then they went out into
the yard and sat down to talk.
Miss Flax was very much amused
but she did not show it. She talked
about the country where human be-
ings lived and gossiped about the peo-
ple In Tabbyland and finally began to
tell Tommy the storr of her life. Tom-
my listened carefully and tried to ap-
pear interested but he began very
soon to get sleep. First he turned
this way and that but his eyes would
close. Miss Flax kept on in a high
squeaky voice and at last Tommy's
head began to nod. He jerked awake
every now and then but at last it was
i too much for him. His head sank low
er and soon he was sound asleep.
