The Waklciwan group of Camp Fire
Girls held its Christmas Council Fire
Friday before the open fire at the
home of Mrs. Ralph Barry.
Barbara Barry lighted the fire of
joy; symbolizing the joy of Christ-
mas ; Jo Ann Hatchett lighted the
fire of peace, which Christinas also
symbolized; and Norma Jean Bledsoe
lighted the fire of Good-Will, also a
characteristic of the Yuletide.
Each girl responded to the roll call
with a quotation on a Christmas custom
in other lands. The way Christmas
is observed in France, Germany, Hol-
land, Poland, Italy, and Sweden was
given by Doris Ayres, Mary Leake,
Ive Mae Maxwell, and Louise Pearson.
The custom of Christmas feasting in
United States, Italy, Germany, Nor-
way, and Sweden was given by Jo
Ann Hatchett, Norma Jean Bledsoe,
Lillie Belle Weidner, Dorothy White,

branch was told by Lillie Belle Weid-
ner and the Christmas wreath, was
hung in the window.
Jo Newman explained the symbolism
of the candle in the window, its origia
being similar to .that of Christmas
green, a light -to guide the steps of
the Christ Child that the spirit of
Christmas love may enter the home.
Aliee Joyce Sledge then placed the
candle in the window. The singing
of "It Came a Midnight Clear'' follow-
ed:

The group then left the room sing-
ing, “Silent Night.” Mrs. Ralph Barry
played the accompaniment for all the
carols. At the close of the ceremony
the girls were served delicious refresh-
ments.1 Following this the group left
to sing, carols around town.
