Dear Sir:tioned are:

The best hotels in the various nitif-s you men-

Salzburg
Bad Gastein

Mittersill Club.In all of these cities there are one or two
other hotels which rank the same, and the designation of "best" is
perhaps a matter of personal taste. For instance in Salzburg many
people prefer the Goldener Hich. In Bad Ga stein many like the
Grand Hotel de L'Europe, or theAstoria, etc., and between the two
or three hotels in the top category there is actually very little
difference in service and appointments, in any of these cities.
There is a very good all-round guide on Europe
by Sidney Clark called "All The Best in Europe" and he also has
individual books on each country, such as "All the Best in France"
etc. The Austrian State Tourist Bureau recommends Virginia Creed' s
"All about Austria" and the German and French Tourist bureaus say
that Nagel' s "Blue Guides" on individual countries are very compre-
hensive, and as a matter of fact, probably are too voluminous.
You ought to be able to get any of these books at the better book
shops in ouston.
As far as the maid is c cncerned, we have been
enable to get a Tourist reservation on the return steamer, and French
Line tells us that she would not be able to attend Mrs. Kempner if
booked in that class. Occasional visits would be permitted, but she
would not be able to render regular service unless booked at the ser-
vants' rate. We are therefore continuing to protect her at the
$272 rate.I
