About Cold
i u creams aee splendid when used
In moderation. The chief trouble is.
ihat once a woman sees how much
she can improve her skin by an occa-
sional use of. them she overdoes the
habit and either makes her skin too
oily or gets the reputation of con-
stantly doctoring up her looks.
Cold creams should never be used
m place of water as a cleansing
agent for -water contains any num-
ber of minerals that nourish and
eautify the skin. Soap of course
contains potash to dissolve the
sreas particles which is the dirt
m the pores and a fatty matter that
mingles with these particles carrying
ihem off. But the water tones up the
skin nourishes it beautifies it.
However cold cream being merely
a thin mixture of fats and oils
mingles with the dirt particles is
absorbed by them while it softens
them and so sinks farther into the
innumerable pores of the skin than
does soap or water. But being a
foreign matter the skin naturally
throws it off again merely wiping a
towel across the face takes off most
of the cream that has penetrated and
with it an amazing amount of grime
and dirt
When the skin is rough dry or
chapped water is often harmful.
Cold cream here is the best substi-
tute. Indeed the only way to keep
thoroughly clean on a train journey
is to rub the face and neck with
cream.
Bnt ordinarily cold cream should
be used only twice a week. Then it
should follow a hot wash and should
be rubbed out and be followed in
turn by an ice rub.

Pretty soon Uncle Wiggily was draw-
ing after hmi the cranberries in the
express wagon that was a Christmas
present to the little boy of the monkey
doodle gentleman storekeeper
It did not take long for Uncle Wig-
gily to get to his hollow stump bunsa-
low again pulling the cranberries aft-
er him. He called to Nurse Jane:
"Here you are! Cranberries for
Thanksgiving sauce!"
Nurse Jane came out on the front
porch. She looked at the little express
wagon full of the round red berries
and then the mufckrat lady sat down on
the porch and began to laugh
"Ha! Ha' Ha' Ho! Ho! He! He! He"'
she laughed.

"You sot far too many!" said Nurse
Jane. "Very much too many."
"But the monkey doodle storekeeper
said Mrs. Magnolia bought a bUbhel and
a peck." said the bunny "and I thought
ne ought to have as many as she or-
dered." "Bat Mrs. Magnolia keeps a boarding
house." said Nurse Jane wiping the
laughing tears out of her eyes. "She
needs lots of berries. A quart would
hate been enough for you and me."
Uncle Wiggily looked at the bushel
and peck of the cranberries he had
bought. There were a good many of
them he had to admit.
"Well it only goes to show that I
know very little about housekeeping"
he said. "I suppose I can take them
back but the monkey doodle store-
keeper will feel badly and "
Uncle Wiggily thought a minute.
"Ha! I have it!" he cried. "Take
what cranberries you want for sauce.
Nurse Jane. The rest I will thread on
strong strings of grass and make neck-
laces for Susie Littletail Nannie Wag-
