J Central Buildings.
A campaign for the erection of a
modern headquarters building for the
Young Women's Christian association
w ill be begun the middle of January by
the local Y. W. C. A.
This was decided upon bj the board
of directors of the association at Its
monthly meeting Thursday in the dow n
town rooms on Texas street The rec-
ommendation for this motement was
made by the board of trustees at a.
meeting with the finance committee
of the association held preceding the
board meeting. The trustees present
were mayor Tom C. I.ea James Graham
McNarj Horace It Stevens and G. P.
Putnam.
It is planned to raise SUJ. (' which
will .-over the expense of the building
ac.l the site and the current running
expenses of the building for two jears.
The T. W. " A. in El Paso has ljeen
organized for seven years. All of its
central and departmental work has
been carried on in rented quarters
..nd during its existence the association
has had to moe five times. The pres-
ent quarters which are the best obtain-
able in the city at present. are nol
suitable to the work of the association
because it is all one ig room where
at the most not more than two classes
or clubs can meet at a time and if a
gymnasium class is in sess.on. the
trooms can be used for no other pur-
"pose. It is the plan to include in the new
building a well equipped gymnasium
with a swimming pool a number of
small class rooms a reading room a
rot room and the cafeteria.
I.at summe- 4oi business women
petitioned the Y. V. C. A board for a
swimming pool and g mnasium It is
the plan to make the Y. tV. C. A. a
recreational center for all the youna
women of the itly and this onlv may
be possible with a suitably equipped
and arranged building. The hearty co-
operation of the Y. M C. A. has been
assured in the building campaign of
