With the announcement yesterday that the Marland company lnten ds to open a search for oil near McAllen in May speculation today is
rife on how near the test well will be sunk to McAllen. It has been ‘*n dicated that it will be somewhere along a line south of Roma on the
opposite side of the river probably within thirty miles of Rcynosa. because of the road which will soon be opened there. Above is shown a
drawing made in the Herald office by Jack Ru'.ledce. the two den-irks on the south side of the river showing the line mentioned. The other der-
rick north of the river shows the approximate location Of the Texas pro ducer. The two figures in the middle of the picture are not skyscrapers

quick sketch production in a newspaper office without the employment of an engraving plant. It promises to lead to many worth while
features.
LEGGE RENEWS
FARM APPEAL
Wheat Growers Are Urged
To Reduce Acreage
10 Per Cent
WASHINGTON April 15.—(/Pi-
Chairman Legge of the federal
farm board today renewed his ap-
peal for a measure of bettering the .
finances of the farmer.
"Wheat growers are being urged
to reduce their acreage ten per
cent.” he said. "The purpose is to get
production more nearly in line with
domestic market requirements so
that the 42 cent tariff can be made
more effective.
"In asking the wheat farmer to
reduce his acreage the board is
not asking him to reduce his in-
come." he added. "Instead the
board confidently believes his in-
come will be improved. If he could
get more money for four bushels of
wheat than he now gets for five
what is the incentive for raising
the extra bushel exhausting the
fertility of the soil and going to
the extra labor of raisins? It. only (
in the last analysis to reduce his
income—not to increase it?”
