CAPITOL
"Let Us Be Gay” with Norma
Shearer in the starring role is the
attraction at the Capitol theatre
today and tomorrow. The picture
was adapted from the New York
stage success by Rachel Crothers
which ran ten months at the Little
Theatre with Francinc Larrimore
in the role potrayod on the screen
by Miss Shearer.
Robert Z. Leonard who produced
the star's last success. "The Dlvor- !
cee." directed the current produc-
tion and gathered together an un-
usually important supporting cast
which Includes Rod La Rocque in
the leading masculine role. Marie
Dressier Gilbert Emery. Hedda
Hopper. Raymond Hackett Sally
Eilers and Tyrelt Davis.
The story is an amusing tale of
a woman who loses her husband's
affection because she neglects her
appearance in an over-efficient
absorbance m household duties. A
few years in Paris however teaches
her a number of things she had
never thought of before and she
returns in time to prevent her ex-
husband from marrying a charm-
ing but entirely unsophisticated
debutante.
The plot offers Miss Shearer
plenty of opportunity for smart
comedy as well as straight drama
while humor of a more ribald type
is offered by Marie Dressier in the
role of an erratic dowager.
The scenes are laid in attractive
Eociety settings and include vistas
of country gardens wooded nooks
and luxurious interiors. Miss Shear-
er is seen in a wide variety of smart
costumes and reveals a number of
new coiffures.
The combination of an intriguing
plot clever characterizations witty
dialogue and a particularly effec-
tive performance upon the part of
the star are said to make this pic-
ture unusually good entertainment.
