The eighth grade eirls had a
Jolly affair Thursday evenmg. un-
der the clmperonage of Mias Ruth
Spencer the event taking place In
the Junior high library.
Half of the girls were dressed In
masculuie fashion and "datec up
f- the “girls” for the evening. Danc-
ing and games were diversion. Re-
freshments were served at the close

Plantation Home
Club Meet Scene
Treble Clef Music club was en-
tertained Tuesday at the plantation
home of Mrs. Randall Mathers. Nine
members ans-rered toll call aith
current events.
A letter of resignation from Dr. W.
Murray a-as read and it was with
regret that the club accepted it.as
she was an enthusiastic member.
Mrs. H. L. Fitch led the lesson
study “Turn fit the Century.** In a
competent manner she brought more
clearly to the minds of the guests
the names of the composers of some
of the beautiful old American songs
such as “Kathleen Mavourneen” by
Crouch. “Stand Up Stand Up For
Jesus'* by Webb. "Rock of Ages'* by-
Hastings and “The Old Arm Chair”
by Russell.
The leader also thought out the
fact that It was Lovell Mason well-
known composer of several songs
who said “It is the right of every
child to have music In his life" and
it was he who first introduced music
instruction in elementary schools.
After the study the — mbri*
gathered around the piano and sang
many of the old songs and hymns.
The program was closed and a
delicious luncheon was served by the
gracious hostess.
A new member Mrs G N Bogle
was welcomed into the club. Mrs
Howard L. Cummins was a visitor.

mins.
Splendid Attendance
At San Benito Meet
SAN BENITO. Dec. 3 —Interest-
ing and profitable talks and re-
ports marked the all day meeting
of the Cameron and Willacy coun-
ty zone of the Methodist Mission-
ary Society which was held Wed-
nesday In the First Methodist
church in San Benito with about
seventy five representatives of
twelve' Methodist churches present.
The San Benito group gave the
welcome with the resiJonse coming
from La Fens a member of the
church from the latter city ren-
dered a vocal solo which was es-
pecially enjoyed. A place on the
honor roll will be given those whose
reports measured with the stand-
ard of excellence.
Mrs. G. R. Mann. Donna secre-
tary took as subject for a splendid
talk. “General Efficiency and How
to Meet the Standard of Excellence *’
At the noon hour a luncheon plate
was served.
A feature of the afternoon ses-
sion was the address given by Mrs.

Baptist Women* Missionary Union
met Thursday with Mrs. John W.
Turner for an all day meeting to
quilt for the Buckner’ Orphans
Home. At noon a pot luck dinner
was served. In the afternoon when
tlve quilting was fuiished the ladies
had their mission study lesson led
by Mrs. Turner.

IS DELIGHTFUL
Mrs W. C. Chandler very delight-
fully entertained Friday afternoon
from three-thirty until five at her
home for the members of her Sun-
day School class and several little
visitors The children spent the time
playing many games and later were
served refreshments. About twenty-
two children enjoyed the party.

ENTERTAINS CIRCLE
The Presbyterian Circle was enter-
tained Tuesday aiternoon with Mrs
M. C- Unzicker as hostess at her
home. Eight members and one visi-
tor were present. Mrs. Snyder was
program leader and Mrs. Q. O. Mil-
ler led the lesson study In the
Epistle of James. A short business
meeting was held It was decided to
have the circle meetings at 2 30 p
m. Instead of at three o’clock dur-
lne the winter months.
The hostess served doughnuts and
coffee to Mesdames Todd. J. F Gal-
loway J O Miller. J. A Uljestrand.

Brady home in Los Ebanos Wednes-
day when Mrs. Brady was the

and several extra guest*. Polnset-

were arranged. A dainty refresh-
ment course was served before the
games.

Wednesday Study club spent a
most enjoyable afternoon in the
home of Mrs. J. L. Kowalski this
week during which time a program
on Mexico was given. Taking part
were Mrs. Gordon Quilter who told
of the history of Mexico and Mrs.
H. L. Kelley who related present
day conditions in Mexico.

club with a gavel made of Huayacan
wood from Mtxico.
