Girl Friends
At Banquet
MI8SION. Feb. 17—Sweetheart*
on parade" was the theme song at
the Hi-Y banquet Friday evening.
Twenty-five Hi-Y members were
present at the sumptouz banquet
served to themselves and their girl
friends. Bob Smith president pre-
sided as toastmaster. The program
consisted of songs by Tom Humason
piano solos by Helen Eppright. a
talk by Eugene Campbell and the
feaured address by Elmer Butler
the sponsor. Mr. Butler stressed the
organization's effort to build Christ-
ian characters in each member. In
three and one-half years that Mr.
Butler has been acting as sponsor
for the group he has seen the out-
standing boys of Mission high school
come into Hi-Y and receive supple-
mentary training Christian living.
This year the group took an active
part in helping the McAllen group
entertain the South Texas conven-
tion. At this meeting Bob Smith
was elected vice-president of the
South Texas organization.
Following the banquet a number
went to Crystal waters to enjoy
dancing.

evening when they entertained with
a surprise housewarmmg for Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Noe. Bridge was en-

joint meeting Wednesday of the
Business and Professional Women
and the Lions club. Miss White Is
lidding a district conference oi
Valley Girl Scouts and the two or-
ganizations are the sponsors of the
Mission troop. Miss White was in-
troduced by Miss Jane Halstead
captain of the local troop.
Miss White said girl scouting is
furnishing activities to occupy the
leisure time and is a program for
character building. "Girl scouting is
no different in its fundamental
teachings than boy scouting.'* Mi-v>
White said. "Both organizations
were founded by the ramie man "
Training gills physicially and
teaching them appreciation of the
arts to think for themselves and
to develop leadership is part of
the scout program.
Miss White gave credit for the
organization of girl scout work in
the Valley to Mission The Valley's
first troop was organized here. Miss
Jane Halstead has been leader. Dr.
M. Smith is the Lion’s club rep-
resentative for the scout troop.

HARLINOEN. Feb. 17. — Annual
Valentine tea of the Guild of St.
Albans Episcopal church held Mon-
day at the Woman's Building was
attended in large numbers by so-
ciety from a score of Valley towns.
Elaborate decorations appropriate
to the season made a beautiful set-
ting for the affair. Greeting guests
were Mrs. John T. Thompson pres-
ident Mrs. George Hosfeldt Mrs.
E. A. Davis Mrs. E. V. McCright
Mrs. N. S. Liddell and Mrs. R. C.
Parrish.
The program arranged by Mrs.

comedy “Ah Wilderness!" with his

a paper on American poets giving
an account of the life and poems
of Edgar Allen Poe and Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow. The hostess-
ess. Mrs. Sanchez and Mrs. Wrtght
served a dessert course. Mrs. Sarah

Gardens and Relampago schools.

Russel Bingley and Mrs. N. O. Cha-
telle were co-hostesses to the mem-
bers of the Womans Service club
at the latter's home on Thursday
afternoon. Twenty nine members
and two visitors were presept. Red
Turk's cap and hibiscus were clus-
tered about the rooms. The meeting
was called to order by the president
and a short business session held
after which the following program
was given with Mrs. Charles Siple
as leader. A paper on "New Bruns-
wick'* was read by Mrs. O. D. Jen-
nings and Mrs. W. C. Oliver spoke
on "East Coast Fisheries". A salad
course was served to members and
swo guests who w ere Mrs. Noe Taylor
and Mrs. Hobbs.

Mrs. Ed. Patterson very pleasantly
entertained the members of the Los
Amigos Bridge ciub with a Valen-
tine party on Wednesday evening
at the Rome of Mrs. G. B. Waller.
The rooms were beautifully decor-
ated with the Valentine motif. Score
cards were small Valentines and the
dainty refreshments also carried out
the same scheme. High honors were
held by Mrs. 8. 3. Sappenfield and
Mr. T. A. Barr. Guests were Mr. and
Mrs. J. Staufer.

Fresnoe Home Demonstration club
will be held Thursday at the home
of Mrs. George L. Goatee. Roll call

PHARR Feb. 17.—Mrs. Ward
Walters entertained Wednesday
afternoon with a childrens party
honoring her small sou. Donnie
on his seventh birthday. The home
was decorated in the Valentine
colors of red and white. Games
were enjoyed by the little people I
after which they were given places i
at a decorated table which held as
centerpiece a large birthday cake '
with seven lighted candles. Place
cards of small nut cups filled with
candy on which was the name of
each guest were found at the table.
Fruit Jello and cream and birthday
cake was served Favors of small
popcorn men in fancy dresses were
given. Donnie received many pres-
ents from his guests who were little

united in marriage at a quiet home

parents Wednesday evening at
seven o'clock. Rev. Richard K Hea-
cock read the Impressive ring cere-
mony. Only Immediate members of
the family attended Mr. and Mrs
Van Dresar will make their home
in Edinburg.

Star Hall for their regular meeting
i Tuesday evening. The hall was
decorated with spring flowers In
tall floor baskets. Special guests
were Mrs Muriel Betts of La Fens.

ourg Mrs. Earl Gamble presented

Heart shaped cake and coffee was
served from a beautifully appointed
table which held as centerpiece
a bowl of red sweet peas the Val-
entine motif being carried out in
table arrangements. Hostesses were
Mesdames Kelley. Dodd. Guinn
Cawthorn and Dumont. About 70
were present including guests
from McAllen. Mission. Edinburg
San Juan and La Ferla.

turned Thursday from a visit In
Alice and Beeville. Rev. Reed at-
tended a meeting of the West
Texas Presbytery In Beeville dur-
ing his stay. Mrs Reed and son.
Jack were guests In the home of
Rev and Mrs. J. H. Hanna of Alice
Word was received recently by
Piekney Ford of the arrival of a
son to Mr. and Mrs. A. 8 Love of
Marshall on Feb. 10. Mrs Love
will be remembered as the former
Miss Cynthia Lee Ford. The baby
was named Albert Scruggs Love. Jr..
Mrs J. S. Ford grandmother of
the baby will remain in Marshall
for an extended visit.

Wednesday
Miss Charles Tittle entertainer
with a "kid party” Wednesday night
in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clycfe
Tandy. The Valentine Idea was
most cleverly expressed In the
decorations and games which
amused the small guests.
The centerpiece on the lace laid
dining table was a red and white
Valentine box adorned with Cup.Is
and darts. It was filled with lolly-
pops tied with ribbons falling to
all sides of the table and pulling
out the favors afforded the little
boys and girls much merriment.
Each of the little guests wore
a small red and white derby which
was awarded after the wearer suc-
cessfully performed a stunt but in
failure It was surrendered as for-
feit. Prizes were awarded to little
Mrs. Fred Wright for the most
realistic little girl and to little
Charles Day for the cleverest
dressed boy.
At a late hour Ice cream cones
were served to the following little

Streta. Anna Ruth Langford Mis.

ing. Mrs H. A. Moore played two
violin solos accompanied by Miss
