Sincerely your friend,
>• f
S I want to thank you and congratulate you and your Committee
J on the good work you did in preparing a i---- __
■ for the City of Abilene. •___ __Z1-----
i new traffic ordinance
___ ___u -The ordinance has been passed and
/printed and"will go into effect the 15th day of January,1939.
7~I understood from the chairman of your Committee that you
■'} would probably want to put on some kind of a campaign to
educate the public and try to make the people traffic con-
1 scious. You will have my full cooperation in this matter so
j far as I can help. The new ordinance was passed practically
Las presented by your Committee. I think after the same has
been in effect"for a time some amendments may be needed.
The traffic situation in Abilene has improved during the year
1938 over the preceding year. The number of collisions be-
tween cars have been fewer, the number of arrests by the
police department have been more than last year. In 1937
there were 5 deaths daused by car accidents which occurred
during that year. Up to this time there have been only 2
deaths from car accidents which occurred in the City of
Abilene during the year 1938 and I am hoping this record
will not be increased. Since the campaign of your Committee
the public are more careful in their driving than formerly.
There is still great room for improvement.
Again congratulating you on your good work and with best
wishes for a happy Christmas, I am
