1 Daniel Webster Kempner, 79, an
official of the Kempner interests
and a life-long resident of the city,
died in Paris, France, early Sun-
day morning while on a vacation
trip abroad.
Mr. Kempner was accompanied
on the trip by Mrs. Kempner, their
daughter, Mrs. Mary Jean Thorne,
a grandson, Daniel K. Thorne, and
his sister, Miss Gladys Kempner,
who were with him at the time of
his death.
Mr. Kempnert made noteworthy
contributions to the civic welfare
of the community and was in-
terested in charitable and eleemosy-
nary institutions of the city.
Mr. Kempner's part in the up-
building of Galveston and the Gulf
coast area was broad and success-
ful. His activities were not restrict-
ed to business fields, but were
many and widespread,

under his leadership.
