services for Colonel Hugh Nugent
Fitzgerald 73 dean of Texas news-
papermen and chief editorial writer
for the Marsh-Fentress newspapers
were held Thursday attended by
high state officials and friends.
The body was taken to Dallas for
additional sendees and burial at
4 p. m. He died Wednesday after a
lengthy illness.
In a brief service conducted by
Rev. Fr. William Blakeslee the
public service rendered by Colonel
Fitzgerald was emphasized.
“His newspaper work was marked
by Independence intelligence and
courage” Rev. Blakeslee said. “He
had the independence to stand for
his convictions the intelligence to
understand public questions and the
courage to support them. Texas lost
an outstanding citizen and the
' church a loyal son.”

school band will sport its new uni-
forms in the tomato fiesta at Rio
Hondo Sunday.

In Sand At Beach
McALLEN May 7.—A gallon jug
of mescal with the year label of
1836 was found at Boca Chica re-
cently by H. E. Pedersen of this
city. The jug was found beneath a
sand dune while Mr. Pedersen an
amateur photographer spending the
summer in the Valley for his health
was hunting material for historical
pictures.
Soil Conservation
Sign-Up Time Ends
Thursday was the last day for
farmers of the Valley to sign for
participation in the national Soil
Conservation program.
Signing was done through the
local committeemen during the first
four days of the week.

available for these contracts approxi-
mately (20000.00.
Schedule A: One crawler crane of ap-
proximately 80 H. P. engine capacity
fitted with 1 yard clamshell bucket and
electric magnet.
Schedule B: Three industrial gasoline
tractors fitted with water muffler and
trailer hitch and equipped with rub-
ber tired wheels each capable of haul-
ing a train of ten (10) fully loaded
trailers.
Thirty (30) flat top warehouse trail-
ers with rubber tired wheels each ap-
proximately 30 Inches by 10 feet.
One (1) automatic dial platform scale
48 Inches by 48 inches capable of weigh-
ing up to 1600 pounds.
Schedule C: Office equipment consist-
ing of 30 chairs 3 tables 8 desks 2
filing cabinets 2 stools 3 hat racks and
25 Venetian blinds.
Each bidder may submit a proposal
on one or more schedules but must
keep each proposal separate.

LEGAL ADVERTISEMENT
The successful bidder on each sche-
dule will be required to enter into a
contract with the Brownsville Naviga-
tion District Brownsville Texas which
will contain provisions conforming with
the requirements of the Federal Emer-
gency Administration of Public Works
as set out in PWA Form No. 188 or 200
and revisions thereof and the special
requirements of the State Director PWA.
A Cashier’s or Certified Check pay-
able without recourse to the order of
the Brownsville Navigation District or
an acceptable Bidder’s Bond in an
amount not less than five per cent
(5 per cent) of the largest possible total
bid including consideration of alter-
nates must accompany each bid as a
guarantee that. If awarded the contract
the bidder will promptly enter into a
contract and execute a bond on the
forms provided as outlined In the speci-
fications and contract documents.
A performance bond in an amount
not less than one hundred per cent
(100 per cent) of the contract price
conditioned upon the faithful perfor-
mance of the contract and upon the
payment of all persons supplying labor
or furnishing materials will be required.
In case of ambiguity or lack of clear-
ness In stating prices in any Proposal
the Owner reserves the right to adopt
the most advantageous construction
thereof or to reject the proposal.
The award of the contract shall be
conditioned upon funds being made
available and the Brownsville Naviga-
tion ptstrict Brownsville Texas shall
have the right to hold bids for a period
of sixty (60) days from the date of the
bid opening. No bid may be withdrawn
within thirty (30) days from the date
of the bid opening.

ment may be procured from Robert J.
Cummins Consulting Engineer 727
Bankers Mortgage Building Houston.
Texas upon a deposit of $25.00 as a
guarantee of the safe return of same
which amount will be refunded on the
return of the documents In good condi-
tion within ten (10) days after the
bids are received. Additional 6et of plans
and specifications may be procured from
the above upon a deposit of $25.00 each
as a guarantee for their safe return
within thirty (30) days from the date
of opening bids in which event $25.00
less actual cost of reproduction will be
returned.
No contract will be awarded until
after the State Director P. W. A. has au-
thorized an award to be made.
The Owner reserves the right to re-
ject any and—or all bids and to waive
any and—or all formalities.
