ORDINANCE No. 267
TAX LEVY FOR THE YEAR 1934
An ordinance levying and providing for the assessment and collec-
tion of taxes for the City of Brownsville Texas for the year 1936. for the
purpose of paying city bonds and Interest thereon: Interest on city war-
rants; creating a sinking fund for the pavment of bonds and warrants:
for general fund purposes: and providing for Interest at the rate of six
percent per annum and a graduated scale of penalties on all delinquent
taxes.
* BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BROWNSVILLE:
I.
That on each and every One Hundred ($100 00) Dollars assessed
valuation In lawful money of the United States of America assessed in
the manner prescribed by law of this State and the Ordinances of this
City there Is hereby levied and there shall be assessed and collected for
the year 1936. on all property real personal and mixed situated in the
City of Brownsville. Cameron County. Texas: and on all property sen:
out of the said City of Brownsville on the first day of January 1936. for
the purpose of evading taxation thereon and afterwards returned to said
City except so much thereof as shall be expressly exempt from taxation
by the Constitution and Laws of the State of Texas and the ordinances
of the City of Brownsville the following tax. to-wlt:
<1* For the purpose of paying principal and Interest due and payable
during the year 1937 on outstanding Bonds of said Cltv of Brownsville
and creating a sinking fund for the pavment of said Bonds at maturity
the following amounts to-wlt: On each One Hundred < $100.00) Dollars

tivities and other General Fund expenses of the City of Brownsville.
Texas for the year 1937 the sum of fifteen (15c) rent* on each One
Hundi^d ($100 00i Dollars assessed valuation.

That on the land heretofore included within the City which ha*
since been by ordinance excluded and eliminated from the City there
remains due and payable the Interest and Sinking Fund of the above
named and listed Bond Issues and Warrants from and after the year
1907 to the year 1936. which said lands shall pay their pro-rata of the
Interest and Sinking Fund on all of the above and foregoing issues from
and after the date of the same to the rear of exclusion of said lands
Lands excluded on July 18. 1918 being a pro-rata amount of fifteen
cents (15c* on each One Hundred Dollars ($100 00) assessed valuation
those excluded on February 20. 1920 being a prorata amount of twenty
seven (27c) cents on each One Hundred Dollars ($100 00) assessed valu-
ation; those excluded on September 15. 1921. being a prorata amount of
twenty seven cents <27r) on each One Hundred Dollars assessed valu-
ation; and those excluded on July 31. 1935 being a prorata amount of
One A 75-100 Dollars ($1 75) on each One Hundred Dollars ($100 00) as-
sessed valuation

That all of said taxes herebv levied and which sliall be assessed and
collected as aforesaid shall be paid in lawful money of the United 8tates
Of America

**- That all taxes hereby levied and which shall be assessed and col-
lected under and by virtue of this Ordinance shall become due and payable
on the fifteenth day of December A. D 1936. and one-half of MOM shall
be paid on or before the 31st day of January A D 1937: and the re-
maining onc-half of the same shall be paid on or before the 31st dav of
July. A D 1937.
Provided however that in the event at least one-half (4» of said
taxes are not paid on or belore the 31st dav of January A. D.. 1937 then
the whole of said taxes shall become due and unless all of said taxes are
paid on or before the 3!st day of January A. D 1937. the following penal-
ties shall be payable thereon to-wit
During the month of February one percent (IN)
During the month of March two percent «2'f>
During the month of April three percent <1%).
During the month of Mav. four percent «4^).
During the month of June five percent (5%).
and on and after the first dav of July etght percent <$%); and provided
further that in the event the second half of said taxes are not paid on
or before the 31st day of July. A D 1937 there shall then accrue a penal-
ty of eight (8'r) percent of the amount so becoming delinquent All of
said taxes shall become delinquent on the first day of August A D 1937

and all delinquent taxes shall bear Interest at the rate of six percent
per annum from the date o* their delinquency all of which penal-
ty and interest if any shall be paid when the taxes upon which the
same shall have accrued are paid

That the Tax Assessor of the City of Brownsville shall assess and
the Tax Collector of said City shall collect all taxes levied and assessed
under this Ordinance together with all penalties and interest which shall
accrue thereunder under and by virtue thereof.

That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in any manner in con-
flict with this ordinance are hereby repealed
Passed and approved on First Reading. November 27. 1936.
