DODGER FISTIC
RECORD GOING
Brooks Have Taken on
Nearly Every Team
BY JI'DSON BAILEY
Associated Pres* Soprts Writer
Baseball Mill is a bruising battle
in Brooklyn and the Dodgers have
only three clubs to go to accum-
ulate a perfect record of at least
one fist fight with every team in
the National league.
The latest flare-up Involved
Catcher Babe Phelps of the daunt-
less Dodgers and Shortstop Arkv
Vaughan of the once phlegmatic
Pirates. It came in tlve final breath-
less moments of one of the whack-
le^ ball games seasoned spectators
at Ebbrts Field have ever seen
Helpless Eight Innings
For eight innings Monday. Curt
Davis held the Pirates helpless
with four scattered hits and the
only excitement aside from the
steadv tatoo of his teammates in
thumping up a six-run lead was
the banishment of Manager Frank
Frisch of the Pirates for protest-
ing a plav at second base in the
sixth stanza It was the .sixth time
Lhls season he had been chased by
an umpire.
But in the ninth the pirates
set off a dynamite display under
Davis scoring six runs before Tot
Presxnell could stop them. Then
when the Dodgers came to bat
Phelps was thrown out at first and
Vaughan hurtled over to the bag
apparentlv to ask Flbie Fletcher.
Pirate first baseman if Phelps had
trrd to spike him. Whatever the
answer. Vaughan and Phelps wad-
ed info each other and were hard
at it before teammates could
intervene.
Other EiMir foes
Thus the Pirates lined up be-
hind the St Louis Cardinals. Chi-
cago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds as
fistic foes of the Dodgers this sea-
son.
Mare Brown null'fled the Pirates'
comeback bv issuing two walks
ahead of a single to Pete Cosrar-
art in th 1*M half of the ninth
and was charged with the loss.
The Dodgers' win enabled them
lo cut another notch off Cincin-
nati's apparently ample lead as
the Reds dropped a 4-3 decision
to the New York Giant*.
Cards Whip Bees
Bob Bowman pitched seven-hit
ball as the St. Louis Cards whipped
the Boston Be**s fi-3 and climbed
otvk to fifth place.
Another sevei-hit pitching per-
formance was turned in bv Claude
Passtau of the Chicago Cubs in
hewing the Phillies 7-3.

U. S. Suit to Split
Oil Set-Up Readied
WASHINGTON- T-The justice
department has prepared a civil
action intended to separate control
of oil pipe lines and marketing of
oil products but some officials said
Tuesday the time of filing the suit
depended upon conferences with
the national defense commission.
Members of the commission were
reported to have suggested such a
suit now might tend to discourage
cooperation in the defense program
The anti-trust division has been
working on the oil case a year. It
was reported reliably it would in-
