V Breckenridge, Tex., April 28—
Breckenridge claims a distinction
probably held by no other town of its
size in the United States. This dis-
( tinction is that, although the town
has a population of 7,000, it has no
railroad.
However, an observer can see con-
A struction gangs of four different rail-
" road companies making dust fly to be
u ths first ones to establish rail com-
a ♦ munication with the town.
Several years ago Breckenridge was
a town of only 700 souls. Then oil
was discovered and the town began to
• grow. People from all parts of the
Southwest flocked to the town. Then,
more oil was discovered in adjacent
sections and today the population of
the town is estimated at 7,000.
. Curtis Hancock, secretary of the
Chamber of Commerce, said the rail-
road construction work is being push-
ed as rapidly as possible.
"The Ranger railroad will be at
“ Parka Camp, seven miles south of
bare, by May 10,” he said. “The Cisco
railroad is at Leeray, sixteen miles
south of Breckenridge and will be at
Parks Camp in the next thirty days.
• The Ringling road from Eastland will
have train service into Wayland,
twelve miles south of Breckenridge, in
i May. The Wichita Falls road from
Newcastle will also be finished soon.”
