Austin, May 25.—Options of legis- ’ tive Baldwin, author of the bill declar-
ed today. Baldwin is suthor of s se-
ries of bills seeking to levy taxes on
shows snd other amusements com-
panies which he estimates will bring
in more than *500,000 biennially to the
state.
The motion picture tax would apply
to all opera houses, theatres, airdomes
and similar places under terms of the
bill. The tax would be payable annu-
ally, graduated to the size of the town.
The scale proposed follows: towns of
less than 1000, *15; between 1000 and
2500, *25; between 2500 and 5000, M0,
lietween 5000 and 10,000, *60; between
10,000 and 15,000, *80; between 15,000
and 20,000, *100; between 25,000 and
50,000, *125; and all cities over 50,-
000, *150.
Representative Baldwin
that such establishments p-
tax in all towns and cities at the
present.
Jury Commissioners to draw grand
and petit juries for the June term of
the district court were selected yes-
terday morning. They are A. H. Peal,
L. H. Spellings and J. W. Holloway.
by Senators Pollard and Darwin, and
signed by practically every member
of the Senate. The resolution was
laid on the table subject to call.
The resolution states: "It is
opinion of the Legislature that the
public interests would be served by
the granting of such application and
the same would result in great bene-
fit to the people of Texas and the
whole Southwest.”

lative leaders as to the length of the
present session vary greatly, expres-
sion today showed. Some members
declare that it will be necessary to
hold another special session while
others stated that by the end of next
week adjournment will be in order.
Representative J. E. Quaid, of El
Paso, chairman of the House appro-
priations committee, said if both the
branches will pass the income tax bill,
the legislature can adjourn within ten
days. Such action in the Ed Paso
members opinion, would give the gov-
ernor an opportunity to “trim” appro-
priations to within the available rev-
enue.
Senator J. H. Bailey, veteran solon
from DeWitt County, on the other
hand, said he is preparing to stay in
Austin thirty days at least Other
leaders hold the same opinion at
Bailey, stating that it will be impos-
sible to get revenue to meet appropri-
ations and that if the governor vetoes
the major appropriation bills it will
require the remainder of the thirty
days session to re-enact such meas-
ures.
Progress during the first week of
the third called session was slow,
practically nothing had been accom-
plished other than consideration of
revenue bills by the house revenue and
taxation committee.
There is apparently a general feel-
ing in favor of reducing certain ap-
propriations already made this year.
Outstanding among the appropria-
tions which are expected to be the
center of considerable debate is the
$600,000 for reclamation and floor!
control and the $1,000,000 appropria-
tion for the establishment of the
Texas Technological College. Reduc-
tion of the $9,000,000 appropriated to
the schools in the form of emergency
aid, also will probably be attempted in
both branches.
