The McKinney Livestock

397 head went through the
auction ring.
Heavy calves off $1. or more ,
lightweight were steady and
listen to this - a few real
lightweight calves hit $97. and
this is an all time high.
Here are the highs establish-
ed at Moore’s on Wednesday:
Hogs - $21.75 for tops; sows
$21. Cattle - stocker cows $34.;
fat cows $27.; canners and
cutters $22.; butcher calves
$35.; stocker steer calves $65.;
lightweight bulls $35.; dairy
type calves $52. Pairs (cows
with calf at side) $360 a pair.
Sheep - breeding ewes $14. per
head, lambs 30 cents a pound,

In fact, there’s not even enough space to write a column this
week. I don’t think I will.

Only yesterday morning, I marveled at the amount of space left
on page 2 for me. Enough to write a masterpiece on the beard
contest, enough to do justice to an item on the Bethany Home
Demonstration Club, yea, even enough space to sing the proper
praises to our local track squad.

Soon, all pages were filled and running over. At last, page 2 had
only a little, bitty spot. That’s when I sat down to write this column.
But there’s not enough space to tell about the wrestling match,
cuss the Collin County directory or mention how nice the folks of
Allen are. There’s not enough space to say a kind word or so about
Melvin Gant and Pete Ford who worked out a deal for the city to
buy the land on the water site at a bargain.

Some of the things a new law
enforcement officer must learn
are: offense investigation, re-
port writing, case preparation,
case filing, testifying in court,
crime scene protection, crime
scene search and followup
procedures.
Accident investigation is the
most difficult of all to learn.
Anyone can work an accident,
but the word investigate is the
secret. The officer must be
very thorough in his investiga-
tion because auto accidents
usually involve extensive pro-
perty damage, and sometimes
serious injury or death to
persons involved.
Accidents usually involve
some type of civil suit; there-
fore, the officer must always be
prepared to testify in court.
The material he will need in
order to prepare himself in-
cludes finding which part is at
fault, what violation has been
committed, skid marks (if
any), amount of damage to
each vehicle and what part of
the vehicle is damaged.
In case of injury, the officer
needs to determine the name
and age of the injured party,
where they were sitting in the
vehicle, if they were wearing
seat belts, and how serious the
injury. If the party is killed, it
is necessary to determine what
part of the vehicle killed them.
All witnesses and where they
were when the accident oc-
curred must also be deter-
mined.
It is not easy to always be
prepared, but through constant
training both in classroom and
on the job, we try.

“In my opinion, he has
the broad experience in
government to give us effec-
tive representation in Austin.
He knows this entire district
well and he understands the

more Mr. McKnight has an
outstanding reputation for
integrity, fairness, energy,
