Soon Major Harry E. Dodge of
the; .Tarleton State College Mili-
tary Science Department will un-
dertake the role of a student ill
the first stage of a new assign-
ment,
Major Dodge has been assigned
to Malaysia (which has recently
been formed from the Federation
of Malaya, North Borneo, and
Sarawek). Malaysia formed this
Federation in August of 1963.

The United States has an em-
bassy in Kuala Aumpor, which is
the capital of Malaya.
Major Dodge will be assistant
to the Army attache there.
In order to qualify him for this
post, the Army will send him to
school in Washington, D. C. this
June. He is to learn the native
tongue among other tasks. His
stay in Malaysia is scheduled to
last two years.
David Smith Receives
Student Pilot License
David Smith, freshman member
of the Tarleton Skyriders soloed
for the first time last week. He
flew alone after only six hours
of flight instruction. The aver-
age student requires seven to nine
hours.
The aircraft David flew was a
Champion 7FC. It belongs to his
instructor; Norman Short of
Pearl.
The solo flight means the stu-
dent receives the coveted yellow
student license, which enables him-
to fly alone.

Major Dodge has been in the
army since high school. He served
as an enlisted man for two years.
He went to the army prep-school
at Cornell University and graduat-
ed from the United States Mili-
tary Academy in 1950, He served
in the Korean War in the Second
Infantry Division. In. addition, he
also served in Japan, Germany,
and several locations .in Cali-
fornia, He was . wounded jn the
Korean War and was. evacuated
after .three jnonths back to the
states to Brook Army Medical

From there, he went to Fort
Benning- Georgia, which , -is the
Infantry School where the.y
teach infantry tactics and where
Major. Dodge remained in the of-
ficer candidate program (known
as DCS), ...
Then he served in the Fifth In-
fantry Division in Augsberg-, Ger-
many about -thirty miles from
Munich in Bavaria.
Following this, ho was stationed
at Fort Oitl, in Monterrey, Cali-
fornia. " • ■ '
' After his service in California,
lie returned to Fort Benning,' the
Anuy Infantry School to further
his military schooling. •
Major Dodge spent three years
in the Airborne Department at
Fort Benning.
In I960 Major Dodge came to
Tarleton where he has been as-
signed to the present date. His
duties at TSC consists of teaching
military subjects for ROTC and
being Advisor to Band Company
and to "B" Company.
Major Dodge, also has a wife
and two children, the daughter,
Debbie, who is fifteen' years, old
MAJOR HARRY E. DODGE
and a sophmore in Steph,enville
High School; and a son who is
eleven years old and a student at
Chamberlian Elementary Schoo.
The favorite sport of the Dodge
family is boating, which they en-
joy as often as possible.
