Young Republicans Plan
Activities For 1964-65
Tarleton's Young Republicans
held their first meeting of the
year Tuesday at 6:30 in the Tarle-
ton Center.

held; their first meeting of the year
last Tuesday night, September 22,
in Conference Room B of the Tar-
leton Center.
.The meeting was called by Wil-
lie Phillips, who is a member of
the state executive board of the
Texas Young Democrats.
The first business to be carried
out was the. election of officers
for the 1964-65 school year. Those
elected include: John Odom, pres-
ident; Martha Moss, vice-pres-
ident; Mike Reeves, secretary-trea-
surer; and Tom Savage, parlia-
mentarian.
Sponsor for the Young Demo-
crats is Mr. Ronald L. Piatt, is-
structor in the Tarleton Social
Sciences Department.
President John Odom appoint-
ed Joe Cowan as head of the mem-
. bership committee and Linda Tay-
lor, chairman of the campaign
committee.
Special guest speaker at the
first meeting was Mrs. O. A.
Grant, wife of Dr. Grant of the
Tarleton Social Science Depart-
ment.
I cer, announced plans for a can-
vassing meeting to be held at the
home of Mrs. J. A. Archer, 1940
Crestridge, September 28. He
went on to say that membership
dues had been sent to the state
organization.
- Later, a nominating committee
was set up to collect background
material on members nominated
for offices. More information on
the officers will be announced next
week.
The Party Constitution was read
and discussed, to give the new
members a more comprehensive
view of the organization. One im-
portant point requires that mem-
bers attend the regular meeting
held on the first and third Thurs-
day of each month.
Of the 42 registered Young Re-
publicans on campus, most were
present along with many other in-
terested persons. Enthusiasm was
high and the members look for-
ward to a rewarding year.
It was generally discussed that
the whole idea of the organiza-
tion was to give the school a two
party system. In this effort they
hope to develop political minded
young people.
The Young Republicans will
meet Tuesday, September 29th,
in the Science Lecture Room at
6:30 p.m. for election of officers.
NOTICE
The next meeting of the Young-
Democrats will be held tonight, at
7:00 in the Science Auditorium,
Guest speaker will be the Rev.
Steve Love of the Tarleton Wes-
ley Foundation.
All interested persons are urged
to. attend.

The following proposed amendments to the Constitution of the Tarleton Student Council wore passed
nanimously by the member's of the Student Council at their regular' meeting held Friday sight, Sep*
'inber 25.
The rewly- proposed amendments are hereby pros-wiled. to the. Tarleton student body to be voted on'
t a general election set for Wednesday, October 7. Adaption of the amendments will be accomplished
y a majority affirmative vote of the students voting on the amendment.
The proposed amendments read as. follows:
Article V. ELECTIONS AND INAUGURATIONS.
Section 1, A. Election and Requirements,
1. The elections of the president and Vice-President of the Student Cous: :il shall be,
held in April of each year. The election committee shall set the date,
C. Election of Membership of -the Co uucil.
1.Membership of the Council shall b'i elected each spring, except for members of the
freshman class, who will be elected in the fall.
Section 3. A. Only persons having completed 60 semester hours of college work with u "0" average at
the time of election shall be eligible for the office of President. Only pe ;uns having
completed 45 semester hours of college work with a "C" average at the of election,
shall be eligible for the office of Vice-President.
The. following- is Article V of the Tarleton Student Council Constitution as it originally read. This is
printed to that you can note the changes made in the proposed amendments.
Article V. ELECTIONS AND INAUGURATIONS
Section 1. A. The elections of the President and Vfce-President of the Student Council shall be held
on the first Tuesday in April of each year. Should a conflict in dates arise, the Election
Committee shall set the date. '
C. Election of Membership of the Council.
1. Membership of the Council shall be elected each year in the spring at a date desig-
nated by the Student Council, beginning in the Spring of 1961, except for members
of the freshman class, which will be elected in the fall. Those in office at the time
of the ratification of this constitution shall not be affected by this provision during
the school year 1960-61 as Student Council members.
Section 3. A. Only persons having completed 60 semester hours of college work with a "C" average
at the time of the inauguration in May shall be eligible for the officers of President and
■ Vice-President of the Student Council.
