Alpha Phi Omega Now Planning
l/MOC, Campus Variety Show
■ Tarleton's Xi Omieron Chapter
of Alpha Phi Omega is currently
making plans to hold its first an-
nual Ugly Man on Campus contest show will be 50c
auw All-Campus Variety Show.
The UMOC rontest will begin on
March 23 and run through, March
30. The climax will come on Tues-
day night, March 30, when the
winner of the UMOC contest will
be named during1 intermission of
the variety show.
All campus organizations, in-
cluding- the social clubs, rodeo
club, and religious student cen-
ters, are invited to enter a candi-
date for UMOC and also an act
for the variety show. They will or
have been contacted by members
of APO.
Deadline
The deadline for entering the
UMOC contest has been set for
Friday, March 19. This early dead-
line will enable each organization's
entry to be pictured in next week's
J-TAG.
Entries for UMOC should be
turned in to the J-TAC office,
room 201 of the Administration
Building, or to any APO member
by 5 p.m., March 19. t
Voting
Voting on the UMOC contest-
ants will take place in the Tarle-
ton Center March 23-30, from 8
a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day, ex-
cept Sunday, March '28. Each can-
didate's. picture will be placed
above a- collection jar on a table
in the center.
Voting will be done by students
placing pennies, nickles, dimes, etc.
in the jar of the candidate of. their
choice.. The UMOC candidate re-
ceiving the most money will be
the winner.
Award
The .winner of the UMOC con-
test will be awarded a key and
, the sponsoring organization will
be-awarded a plaque. Any organi-
zation winning- the plaque for
three consecutive years will be-
come permanent owner of it.

Gamptts Variety Show has been
set for Wednesday, March 24.

The TSC livestock judging,
team scored an over-all second i
place in winding up its 1964-65
season March 5 in the Houston
Rodeo and Fat Stock Show.
The threes-mail Tarleton team,
was oin competition with 17 teams
from six states in the intercolleg-
iate contest.
Tarleton emerged high team in
beef cattle and sheep judging. In
quarter horse and bog judging,
the TSC team took Second and
fourth place, respectively. '
Individual entry saw Roy Birk,
Llano freshman, win" third place
over-all; Spencer Tankuly, Bry-
an froshnian, sixth " place;' arid
Bruce Brandenberger, San Saba
freshman, eigth.
In previous fat stock judging
meets this school year, the team
was awarded first place at Sam
Houston State College, Huntsville
and fifth at Fort Worth.
Nine more silver trophies and
medals were added to the display
in1 the Agriculture building this
year. Although faced with tough
competition from many senior I
colleges, the TSC team outscored I
all other Texas teams and each'
[member of the eight man team
placed within the top ten indivi-
duals.

in depth, and balance of any group
of the past four years.

Tarleton Rodeo
Strong for
Prospects of the Tarleton rodeo
team finishing high in the South-
ern Region of the National Inter-
collegiate Rodeo Association ap-
pear favorable.
Newly christened into NIRA
competition, the TSC team captur-
ed the first place team trophy in
its initial NIRA meet March 4-6
at Pan American College, Edin-
burg.
Tarleton rounded up 262 points
to earn the prized trophy. Second
place Pan American drew 259%
points. Collegiate cowboys of the
other 10 teams competing were
plagued with "bad luck" and fail-
ed to place, thus earning no points
for their respective teams.

Competing teams were Texas
A&M University, Sam Houston
State, East Texas State, South-
west Texas State, Southwest Tex-
as State Junior College, Texas
A&I, Wharton County Junior Col-
lege, Northwestern Louisiana
State ,Fan American College and
McNeese State (La.) College.
The opening rounds of NIRA
rodeoing apparently gave rodeo
sports forecasters a surprise end-
ing with Tarleton taking the hon-
ors. Sam Houston State, 1964
Southern Region NIRA champs
and first runner up nationally,
went home to . Huntsville empty
handed.
TSC Team
Three Tarleton team members
placed high in individual events.
Bill Albin, Comanche freshman,
won first place in tie-down calf
roping and placed second in one
gorround of t>ull dogging -fco total
100 points in both e.vents. Albin
averaged 29.9 seconds on. two tie-
down. calves. He is'the 1963 World's
Champion Optional Roper of the
American Junior Rodeo Associa-
tion.
Winning two second places were
Terry Walls, Evant freshman, and
Randy Magers, Fort Worth sopho-
more.
Terry Walls
Walls placed second in go-rounds
of bull dogging (steer wrestling)
and earned a second place in one
go-round of calf roping- for a final
tally of 90 points. He is the 1963
World's Champion Tie-down Calf
Roper of AJRA.
Magers, who entered in bull rid-
ing, bareback riding and tie-down
calf loping, went scoreless on two
of the events but sacked up a sec-
ond place in bull riding for 72
points. The "spinning" bull that
carried him to first runner-up had
not been ridden previously.
Other Cowboys
Other TSC cowboys entered in
competition wery Joe Allen, Abi-
lene freshman; Cliff Stephens,
Fort Worth sophomore; Lionel
Lane. Fort Worth sophomore;
Tommy Behrens, San Saba sopho-
more; and Kenneth Black, Gustine
freshman. Carl V. Chumney, assist-
ant professor of agriculture, is
sponsor and coach.
Tarleton's next NIRA competi-
tion will be against Sam Houston
State in the Mexia Match Rodeo
March 26-27.
The 11-rodeo NIRA regional sea- .
son will close at Stephenville. On
May 13-15 here, Tarleton will host
the NIRA meet.
