THE J-TAC
PAGE THREE
BOXERS WIN IN
CITY TOURNEY
By DALE BLACKWELL
"Guinea" Garrett, Stephenville
welter-weight, and "Slim" Fulton
of Brownwood, squared off in an
impressive and solid punching
bout at the City Recreation Hall,
, Friday night, in a series of three-
Jround bouts sponsored by the
William E, Dyess .American Le-
gion'Post of JTAC.
The feature bout of the evening
was Billy Dickerson and "Killer"
Humberson. Both boys showed
plenty of skill throughout the
fight, and neither was in serious
trouble at any time. Their coordin-
ation and exceptionally good con-
dition were noticeable, and there
was much precise "in" fighting.
Fight fans of Stephenville will re-
member Dickerson from last sea-
son as he was seen in action with

good boys from all over the State.
It appears as if he has perfected
a new style. To the casual onlook-
er, perhaps some of the old class
has been lost, however, the lad
still packs' power in either glove
and seoms to be a speedier boxer
with added experience, - than he
was in his last performance here.
"Killer'' Humberson was a fast
fighter who appeared in the Dis-
trict Golden Glove' fight held in
Brownwood last February, where
he went on to win his height divi-
sion, Probably Dickerson will meet
Humberson in Golden Glove com-
petition late this month.
The eompfete results of the
bouts arenas follows: Billy Dick-
erson, 130, decision over "Killer"
Humberson, 134; "Guinea" Gar-
rett 149, decision ,over "Slim" Ful-
ton,148; "Kid" Crane, 132, dici-
sion over "Toughy" Smith, 138;
Joe Pate, 140, kayoed Clyde Vance,
146; Don Brantly, 164, decision
over "Slugger" *Nowell, 160; and
"Buster" Howell, 129, decision
over Wayne" Beethge, 127.
The William E. Dyess American
Leagion Post will sponsor other
fights this .season.

Drop-Outs Fewer
Than Last Year
Fewer students are. withdraw-
ing- from Tarleton this year than
last year, according to Registrar
Morgan Garrett.
"Students withdrawing as of
Jan, 8, 1947, were 183 Avhich re-
presented 11,8 per cent of the total
enrollment for the fall of 1946,"
Garrett stated. "For the fall of
1947, there were 158 students
withdrawn as of Jan. 8, 1948 which
represents 11.21 per cent of the
total enrollment."
"Thus not only fewer students
have dropped out this year but
the percentage of drop-outs of the
total enrollment is less," he added.

JERSEY BULLS
Animals Superior
For Herd Sires
Two outstanding young Jersey
bulls, Draconis Dreaming Bob and
Ada Standard Design, have recent-
ly been acquired by John Tarleton
College, according to W, W. Reed,
head of the animal and dairy hus-
bandry departments.
"AH animals in' the first and

The dam of the new bull is Wili-
onyx Dreaming Snowdrop, classi-
fied "Very good" with a 508 pound
butter fat record.
Tarleton's other new bull, Ada
Standard Design, is a three-year
old with an equally impressive
ancestry. The sire and both grand-
sires are rated "superior" and the
dam, pesign Favorite Ada, i s
classified "very good" and has
a butter fat record of approxi-
mately 700 pounds. Design Favor-
ite Ada was a daughter of the
great Jersey bull, Favorite Nico-
