Sonny James Packs Main Aud
by Helen Hearne
Every seat in the TSC audi-
torium was packed as Sonny
James displayed his talents in
Stephenville on March 15.
The popularity of this top
country , and western artist was
very evident from the screams
arid wild yells qf the audience.
Alongside Sonny James was
his special group 'The Southern
Gentlemen.' Decked-out in eye-
catching suits patterned after
Johnny Cash, * 'The Southern
Gentlemen' stepped back to let
Sonny steal the show.
Believe it or not, Sonny James
does play the fiddle with his feet!
Besides singing and playing
the guitar, the versatile star
proved his ability to play the
banjo and fiddle,
The country artist performed
qui® a few of his hit records for
the anxious spectators. Several
numbers were fairly recent as
'Young Love.' Others were long-
forgotten sounds of yester-year.
With never, a dull moment on
stage, the entire program flowed
smoothly and with ease. Each
phase of the show was well ac-
cepted by the huge audience,
'There was just one thing
wrong with the program,' stated
Donna Edwards, it wasn't long
enough. Other than that it was
really great and I loved it.*
Cynthia Hutchinson ex-
claimed, 'He was a good selec-
tion because he wasn't all that
country and western.'
Bob Wright commented, 'It
wasn't as bad as I expected. But
it wasn't as good as it could have
been.'
'What do you expect for noth-
ing?' stated one college student.
'1 really, enjoyed it because
there was never a dull moment,'
said Cathy Campbell.
As Sonny's manager Bob Neal
says, 'Showmanship is a long
word...but this fellow's got it!...
tall, talented...every inch a star...'
