President of the Young Democrats
last Wednesday night at the YD's
weekly meeting.
She replaced Mike Brownlow, a
junior from Stephenville, who
resigned because of scholastic
conflicts.
At the meeting, a move was
also made for a new constitution
to be drawn up. Mike Pugh, a
junior from Stephenville, was
chosen to head up the committee
to draw up the new constitution.
The committee was given until
Nov. 6 to come up with a new
document. At this'h'me it will be
voted on and adopted if accepted
by the organization.
Jim Newell, instructor of social
sciences and faculty adviser for
the YD's said, "The revision of
the constitution would make the
document easier to deal with."
Newell also stated tha.t one of
the major changes will be an
amendment to make the calling of
special elections easier.

Before listening labs were
available in the Tarleton music
department, music students used
the music room in the Dick Smith
Library.
The music room, a small room
to the left as you enter the front
doors of the library, was equipped
with a stereo phonograph when
the library was built in' 1956,
according to Ms. Lola Rivers
Thompson, a retired Tarleton
librarian.
"We played soft, background
music when there weren't any
music appreciation classes using
the room," Ms. Thompson said.
Very few students use the
music room now, according to
Harvey Cover, TSU librarian,
since most students aren't
interested in classical music. The
2,500 recordings available are
primarily classical, although there
are a number of other categories.
One such category includes
poetry readings,, drama, musical
reviews, anij co-medies. Two
examples in this division fire
Robert Frost and Dylan Thomas.
Frost is recorded reading
"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy
Evening," "Death of the Hired
Man," and "Fire and lee." One of
the poems Thomas reads is "Do
Not Go Gentle."
Another division is concerned
with history recordings and news
reports. In this section forifier
President Harry Truman'is
recorded giving his inauguration1
address of Jan. 20, 1949. It also
includes three of the gre^t debates
of the 1960 presidential-political
campaign between Richard Nixon
and John F. Kennedy. ■

Un-American Activities; hearings
in San Francisco, May, 1960."
This recording includes excerpts
from the actual hearings,
interviews outside the courtroom,
and from eye-witness accounts.
Recordings in the category on
guidance, vocation and education
careers include "Conversations
Regarding the Future ' of
Architecture" and "Why I Chose'a
Small College." Sir Tyrone
Guthrie is.-also recorded giving a
lecture called "Directing a Play."
In tile' romance language
•division, there is included a living
language course in Spanish and
French. Some recordings of
French short stories are also
available, with the texts included.
Most of the folk song category
"is an historical kind of study,"
according to Ms. Ines Clay,
Tarleton librarian. A few
examples in this division include:
some ballads by Burle Ives, a
collection of Shakespeare's songs
and lute solos directly related to
his plays, and a 10-record set of
folk songs of Britain.
Two other categories in the
collection concern elementary
school musiq and aids for
improving shorthand.
Students can use the
equipment for as long as they
want to, Cover said, unless there
is a big demand for it. "We've
never had that happen, though,"
he added.
There are three sets of
headphones in the music room;
Other listening stations are
scattered through the library, so a
number of students can listen to
the same recording at the same
time.
