NOTICE
PHS is trying to compile a
collection of past annuals to
be displayed in the new
school. We now have a 1949
annual but none before that.
And these editions also are
missing: the 1954, 1964,
1967, 1968,1969, 1971, 1980.
We would be very grateful
for your help. If you wish to
donate an annual to complete
the collection, your help will
be acknowledged inside the
front cover. Some of these
annuals aren’t in perfect
shape, and if a better issue of
it can be found it would be
appreciated.

“How many did ya hit last
night? Who’s gonna make
varsity?” These words will
soon be heard throughout the
school as football season
comes to an end, signalling
the Dragons to take to the
court. Basketball practice
has already begun, and Mot-
ley County was played last
night, setting the 1980-81
cage season into full tilt.
Coach Casey Rodgers said
that he is looking forward to
the start of the new season,
setting his goals on bettering
last seasons record, and aim-
ing for a district champion-
ship. Rodgers stated that he
expected enthusiasm on the
court, and an all around out
effort by every one of his
players. Only 12 people will
make the varsity squad, and
approximately 15 on the JV.
There is a possibility of a cut.
Already bouncing balls are
echoing throughout the gym
late into the evening as the
Dragons prepare for a new
season with high expecta-
tions. All of your support will
be appreciated.

A larger than usual crowd
filled the gym Friday for the
last pep-rally. The band star-
ted off the pep-rally with
P.H.S.’s fight song as the
football boys walked out onto
the court. After a yell led by
the cheerleaders, the senior
members of the football team
were introduced. Following
another yell, the senior
cheerleaders were presented
with mums by the other
cheerleaders. After the pre-
sentation of the mums, the
band performed “Gospel
John.”
The seniors who received
gag gifts were Eugene
Rekieta, bow and arrow, nite
lite, and electric socket; Joe
Don Moreno, mannequin,
and a bouquet of flowers;
Terry Gibbs, fireman’s hat
and a watch; Jackie Fowler, a
poster of a goose and a little
“women and wine”; Brad
Brooks, a poster and a make-
up set; Hiro Shimura, a boat
and airplane; Marsha Kin-
ney, training wheels, pass to

chart; Michelle Cranford, a
pass and a console; Penny
Chaney, a new car, a mag-
net, and a poster of
“Grouch,” Penny, Michelle,
and Marsha all got “Bosom
Buddy Beauty” banners.

This week the spotlight
shines brightly upon 5’8”
brown-haired Karla Gilmore.
Karla is the 18 year old
daughter of James Don and
Peggy Gilmore of Paducah.
Karla is very active around
PHS, participating in basket-
ball all four of her high
school years, lettering for
three of them. She also has
participated in track, West
Wind, the annual staff,
F.H.A., and the National
Honor Society.
Karla has many honors,
including football queen
nominee, class favorite her
Junior year, Senior class
president, Cotton queen
nominee, and is the reigning
P.T.O. halloween carnival
queen.
Karla states that her favo-
rite color is green, her favo-
rite car is a thunderbird, and
her favorite movie was “Kra-
mer vs. Kramer.” Her best
memory is going to regional
in basketball last year, com-
ing off the bench to add three
points to the Dragonette
effort. Karla is one of the
favorite people around PHS,
and we wish her the best of
luck in the future.

AS
—BY GAYLON WILSON
If you noticed, there were
about 8 to 10 students and
Mrs. Clark who stayed late
after school and worked over
the weekend. They were the
Zephyr staff. The Annual
staff had to meet its first
deadline of the year last
week. The company who
prints the annuals requires
the staff to meet about five
deadlines a year. These
deadlines must include the
layouts, pictures, and the
captions. Each of these dead-
lines include many of the
topics that the annual cover.
The reason the staff had to
work so hard is that the
pictures for the yearbook
didn’t come in until the last
minute. They had to stay up
at night and over the week-
end cropping the pictures,
typing out the captions, and
making last minute changes
in the layouts. With all these
things working against them,
they still managed to get the
material in the mail on time.
We, the students of PHS, say
thanks for the dedication of
the staff for trying to make
our yearbook the best ever.
