The one that, while sitting in
church, could be cooking roast,
and potatoes, and carrots, and
hot rolls, and dessert, and, yes
occasionally, those yucky turnip
greens she thought tasted great.
Surely, you remember!
The one that was always up
before everyone el se in the house,
and the one that always went to
bed after everyone else did, and,
yes occasionally, took a nap in
the middle of the afternoon.
The one that made us go to
school, and made us do our
homework, and, yes occasion-
ally, got on to us for our C's.
The one that made us do the
dishes, and the beds, and the
dusting, and, yes occasionally,
the bathroom.
You've just got to remember!
The one that kissed our
knicks, and our bruises, and,
yes occasionally, scolded us af-
terwards for being where we
weren't supposed to be in the
first place.
The one that swore she
couldn't wait until we were
grown, and we were out, and we
were on our own, and, yes occa-
sionally, cried at graduation.
The one that thought she was
too young for grandsons, or
granddaughters, and, yes occa-
sionally, made numerous trips
to the hospital in the middle of
the night to welcome them to the
world.
The one that now says she's
too old to be a grandma, to put
up with the racket, the noise,
and the rattle of her knick-
knacks, and yes, occasionally,
has been caught spoiling them a
time or two.
I knew you'd remember!
by Brenda Couvillion
Well, I ruined my mother's
Christmas by bragging on her
candy (her candy flopped for the
first time after my Christmas
article) so now I'll see what I can
do to her Mother's Day!
Remember your mother? You
know,
The one that did the washing,
the ironing, the cleaning, and,
yes occasionally, a little yelling?
The one that made our cute
little dresses, and our cute little
hair bows, and, yes occasion-
ally, that really "out" dress she
just thought we'd love!
