LETTER TO THE PUBLIC
PADUCAH SENIOR CITIZENS, INC.
Emma James, Director
There is a "possibility" that The Paducah Senior Citizens"
Program of service to this community might become "An
Endangered Species."
At present, about 40 persons are served meals at the
CENTER and 65 meals are delivered to “Shut-Ins" 5 days a
week, 52 weeks a year. AND there is a waiting list of people
who NEED to be served on the "Carry Out" Service. The
CENTER has FIVE areas of service to the community: Meals
served at the Center, Meals sent out to homes. Bus service for
those who need it, a Telephone Assurance program, and an
Outreach Service. This means that The Center TOUCHES
AND SERVES A GREAT NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO
NEED ITS SERVICE.
Each of the areas of service receive FEDERAL GRANTS.
The Center is required to MATCH THESE GRANTS. Be-
ginning October 1, 1992, these grants will be greatly RE-
DUCED. At the same time food cost continue to increase.
Services and Utilities increase. Workers' Comprehensive In-
surance (WHICH THE CENTER IS REQUIRED TO TAKE)
is unusually high, Bus service, maintenance and insurance
continue to increase annually.
All this is to say that THE CENTER is trying to HELP
ITSELF and THE COMMUNITY by giving A CHICKEN
DINNER "WITH ALL THE TRIMMINGS”, on Sunday, August
9th AT THE CENTER Serving will begin at 11:30 a.m. and
continue through 1:00 p.m. Gifts OVER AND ABOVE THE
COST OF THE MEAL, WILL BE GREATLY APPRECI-
ATED. The community has been a great source of support,
strength and encouragement in the past. Continuation of this
support is most essential. The Center and those it serves, say:
THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE AND FOR
WHAT YOU CONTINUE TO DO. Make this a FAMILY
AFFAIR! COME! EAT WITH US! August 9th.
It would be helpful to those who will be preparing the food
if you would purchase tickets in advance. A single piece of
bread should not be wasted! WE LOVE YOU!
Sincerely,
The director, officers, staff and

The closing of the West Texas
Gin in Paducah, Texas and the
re-opening of the gin located at
Grow, Texas was announced
recently. Much thought and
research has gone into this move,
according to Robert Riggs,
owner. "With the merger ofWest
Texas and Grow, we feel that we
will be able to continue to be an
integra 1 part of the ginning
business in the area. With this
move, we will continue to pro-

a cotton gin provides for the
cotton farmers in the area," he
said.

Craig says forget the jogging,

is a new way to fitness:

Hope that the City will con-
sider keeping the public swim-
ming pool open evenings or
weekends for awhile after School
opens. Kids go back to school
early this year, and there is quite
a lot of summertime left. Those
afternoons in a hot schoolroom
can sure make one long for the
cool waters of the pool. Even ol'
grandmas like Rambler and
Grace Piper enjoy swimming in
the late evenings. We have heard
some really nice compliments
on our public pool — how clean it
is, and well-kept. The state in-
spector said it was the cleanest
water he had inspected. THAT s
a real compliment, especially if
you remember it a few years
ago.
If you haven't been out there
to enjoy the water, or just to sit
in the shade and watch the kids
enjoying it, you've missed a real
treat. There are always state-
certified lifeguards on duty, and
