Armadillo Trot scheduled
The second annual Ar-
madillo Trot, sponsored by
the Stephenville Runners
Club and Town and
Country Bank, is scheduled
for 9:30 a.m. Saturday,
Oct. 24. The sponsors hope
for a large number of
Tarleton students and
faculty members among
the entrants.
Last year's overall
winner of the 3.1-mile race
was TSU track star Javier
Tamez, who posted a time
of 15:16. Eight other
Tarleton students ran the
course, with four of them
winning age group awards.
Several faculty members
also ran the race, with two
of them taking home
medals.
The race will begin and
end in the TSU Memorial
Stadium parking lot. The
entire course will be on

paved streets, with traffic
control provided by city
police and club members.
Split time's will be given
at the mile and two-mile
marks, with final times
called out and recorded at
the finish line. Awards will
be given to the overall male
and female finishers and to
the top three finishers in
each of the following age
groups (male and female):
15 and under, 16-22, 23-29,
30-39, 40-49, and 50 and
over.
A team trophy will be
awarded this year in a
new.ly created team
category. Each team will
consist of five runners,
with individual times of the
five runners added
together to make an overall
time for the team. The
team with the lowest
cumulative time for its five
runners will receive a
trophy.
Teams can be all male.
all female or mixed.
Runners can represent an
existing club or
organization, or may
organize solely for the
purpose of entering the
team race. Membership on
a team will not impair a
runner's ability to compete
for an individual trophy.
The entry fee for the race
is $6 if paid by Oct. 20, or $7
if paid thereafter. The
entry fee entitles each
entrant to a race T-shirt.
There is no additional fee
for entering the team race.
Race day registration
will begin in the stadium
parking lot at 8 a.m., at
which time pre-registered
runners will also be able to
pick up their race packets.

Country Bank, Stephenville
Sports, and Sunbelt
Savings. For further in-

TexAnns give HPU
◦ run for their money
On Friday the TexAnns
hosted a very quick,
disciplined team from
Howard Payne University.
TSU lost the best of five
match 14-16, 5-15, 15-5 and
13-15, but not before giving
the visitors a big scare.
Last Tuesday evening in
Wisdom Gym the TexAnns
defeated Mountain View
College 15-0 and 18-16,
staving off a determined
effort by the visitors in the
second game. In the second
round of the dual meet, the
TexAnns whipped Mc-
Murry College 15-12 and 15-
8.
Other games to date for
the TexAnns volleyball
team have gone as follows:
Sept. 15, TSU defeated
McMurry College 15-7 and
16-14; Sept. 15, TSU lost to
Hardin Simmons 6-15 and
13-15; Sept. 17. TSU lost to
Abilene Christian 11-15 and
9-15; Sept. 17, TSU lost to
Mary Hardin Baylor 2-15
and 5-15; Sept. 22, TSU
defeated Richland College
15-10 and 15-7; Sept. 26
iTIAA Mid-Season
Tournament), TSU
defeated McMurry 15-4 and
15-12; defeated Trinity
University 16-14 and 16-14;
lost to Sul Ross State 8-15
and 6-15; and defeated
Austin College 16-14 and 15-
6. (TSU's second place
finish in this tourney gives
the TexAnns second
seeding in the Oct. 29 T1AA
Championship Tour-
nament. )

Golfing faculty
are needed
Signup sheets are now
being circulated for the
annual Faculty Men's Golf
Tournament. According to
co-chairmen of the tour-
nament, B.J. Alexander
and Don Zelman, the
signup sheets should be
turned in by Oct. 15.
Tee off time is 12:30 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 17. The
location is Legends Golf
Course in Stephenville.
"If we have overlooked
anyone in sending out
notices, we want them to
let us know," Zelman said.
"We welcome those who
haven't participated
before, and Tarleton staff
people are invited also."
This is the third Faculty
Men's Golf Tournament. In
past years, 25 to 30 golfers
have participated in the
event, and a similar
number is anticipated
again this year.
The only cost to enter is
the $5 per person green fee.
Anyone who wants more
information may call
Zelman in the Social
Sciences Department or
B.J. Alexander in the
English Department.
Rodeo team
splits first
The TSU Rodeo Team
went to Portalis, N.M. last
weekend for their first
collegiate rodeo of the
season.
The men's team split
first with West Texas
College at Snyder. Wesley
Williams won the mens all-
around, placing first in the
calf-roping. Ricky Phillips
placed third in the long-go,
split fourth in the short-go
and second in the average
in the bull riding.
Paul Brown was third in
the short-go and split
fourth in the average in the
saddle bronc competition.
Also making the short-go
was Rodie Walker in
bullriding, Blake Bowme
and Randy Graf in calf
roping, Tom Guin and Clay
Anderson in the team
roping and Melody Walker
in the barrel racing.
Part-time jobs

If you need a little
spending money but your
course work interfers with
a part-time job the Student
Activities office along with
the Student Directors office
may have the answer.
If you are willing to haul
hay, repair fence, mow
yards, clean houses, prune
trees and any other jobs to
assist elderly people and
