where I can find him.
I was raised by an honest
mother, and have tried to deal
justly with my fellow-man.
i The “dope sheet” he uses
I against me is a relic of a cam-
paign in 1914, of the “Inde-
pendent party” in my county
against the Democratic nomi-
nees. They made similar
I charges against every Demo-
11 cratic official, and only re-
i ceived five hundred votes in the
county, including negroes and
I Mexicans. The person who
opposed me gave Luce the
"mud” he besmirched me with.
The matter of fees that he
charged me with was purely
a question of law, and hinged
upon the proposition of wheth-
, er or not a plea of guilty was a
conviction. If it was a convic-
tion under the law, I was en-
, titled to fifteen dollars; if it
i was not, I was entitled to only
five dollars.
The District Judge held with
me, and these are his words:
“It is apparent that thecoun-
ty attorney is entitled to $15.00
in each gaming case wherein a
conviction is had in any court,
it makes no difference whether
{xy AN, pc the same is on a plea of guilty
