Got It Backward Again
Want to go to Nacogdoches
over the dirt road? Then, here
is your route, as detailed to a
News reporter. Go by way of
Marion’s Ferry. It is said that
the road is fairly good in this
direction and the trip can be
made with an automobile with-
out any difficulty. The News
mentions this not so much for
the, benefit of Lufkin people
desiring to go to Nacogdoches
as for the benefit of the Nac-
ogdoches folks desiring to come
to Lufkin. Surely the travel
from that direction will be
greater than from this end of
the line, as many would rath-
er visit the best little city in
East Texas than to remain
where they are.—Lufkin News.

duck — excruciatingly funny,
in fact. The idea of a man go-

$25.00 in Cash Prizes for Home Sewing
One gentleman visitor de-
parting on the Cotton Belt this
morning for his home, after
spending several days in the
city, remarked that he regret-
ted he was unable to secure a
business house in Lufkin, as he
desired to engage in business
here. He says "you seem to
have a real, live town, and a
spirit of progressiveness not
found in every place.” He was
right, Lufkin is a real, live town
and there is every indication
that nothing can retard its'
steady growth. The lack of
houses here, however, is respon-
sible for many having to go
away who would otherwise be
glad to stay. The building pro-
gram here is going forward now
and the outlook is encouraging.

El Paso, Texas, April 15.—-
J. B. Gwin, secretary of the As-
sociated Charities, has a candi-
date for the patient persons’'
club. The candidate he would
enter is one John Smith, who ar-,
rived here from San Antonio on
his way to California.
It took Mr. Smith and his
wife and three children exactly
two months to drive from San
Antonio to El Paso. He drives
three burros, two on duty at a
time, while the third rests. The
burros pull a wagon and keep
moving all day and most of the
night, he said.
