Go Into Motor Bus Business
Beaumont, Dec. 26. The
Eastern Texas Electric com-
pany has gone into the motor
bus business. It has begun the
operation of a bus line from
Port Neches to Nederlands
out by the picture itself; no-
where else than on and among
the islands of the South Seas
could auch land- and sea-
scapes have been found. The
entire film, on the pictorial
side, is a panorama of beauti-
ful scenes.
The story concerns one Cap-
tain Blackbird, a planter on a
Pacifi island, whose wife de-
serted him for the island gov-
ernor, fleeing with their eldest
daughter, injuring the young-
er in her mad haste to leave.

■Perseverance and for-
IHIRTY YEARS AGO—I remember when eggs were 3 dozen for
1 25c; butter 10c per pound; milk was 5c a quart; the butcher gave
away liver and treated the kids with bologna; the hired girl received
two dollars a week and did the washin'. Women did not powder (in
public), smoke, vote, play poker, or shake the shimmie.
Men wore whiskers and boots, chewed tobacco, spit on the sidewalk,
and cussed. Beer was 5c and the lunch free. Laborers worked ten
hours a day and never went on a strike. No tips were given to waiters
and the hat-check grafter was unknown. A kerosene hanging lamp
and a stereoscope in the parlor were luxuries.
No one was ever operated on for appendicitis or bought glands. Mi-
crobes were unheard of; folks lived to a ripe old age and every year
walked miles to wish their friends A MERRY eHuISTMAS

movies nightly; smokes cigarettes; drinks Ruckus Junice blames the
H. c. of L. on the Republicans; never go to bed the same day they get
up, and think they are having a wonderful time.
