PROTECT and SAVE Food In Your
Electric Refrigerator
Seventy-five cents of each food dollar is
said to be spent for perishable food. So by
properly protecting perishables, you not
only save yourself money, but also save
the nation’s food. Your thrift, multiplied
by millions of other thrifty housemakers,
will help win the war!
s‘
These huge 60-ton heavy tanks
cost $120,000, and America’s auto-
motive and locomotive plants are
turning them out on a never-ending
assembly line. Our army uses light
tanks, weighing 14 tons, and me-
dium tanks of 28 tons also, but we
favor the medium tank over the
other two.

The 1932 wheat harvest started in
the Groom community last Friday
when Walter Fraser brought in the
first load of wheat to the Boydston
Elevator. It tested 61, which is es-
pecially good.

Mrs. Madison Fields Thursday after-
noon for a few hours of sewing and
conversation.
The young married people’s class,
“Home Builders,” of the Groom Bap-

rising living costs. And with full un-
derstanding. he can be the most im-
portant soldier on the Home Front.

Through price control, we have
tightened our economy. We also have
taken in our belts. We have deter-
mined that almost nothing which
might be useful in war shall be
wasted on the non-essentials of or-
dinary living.
Instead of waste, we must pursue
conservation and salvage. We must
collect our scrap metals to help feed
the war furnaces, and as we have
been doing for almost two weeks
now, we must gather up every piece
of scrap rubber so that all available
can be reclaimed for war use. These
efforts also must continue for the
duration.
In addition, as the fighting front
needs more materials, the Home
Front will do without more. Import-
ant developments of the week in this
connection included the war notice
sent to all manufacturers by the War
Production Board. This notice was
that all manufacturers using more
than $5,000 worth of basic metals in
a 90-day period will be placed under
a drastic allocation program begin-
ning July 1.
To get critical materials under
this program, manufacturers must
file their applications under the
WPB district office before July 1.
If they don’t file their applica-
tions ,they will find the task of ob-
taining materials acute and also face
the necessity of stopping production.
Under the allocation plan, materials
will be allocated for essential civilian
uses.
Prospects are pretty dark for any
use of critical materials for produc-
tion of anything that won’t help win
the war or maintain necessary civi-
lian services.

These heavy tanks are needed for
certain phases of modern warfare,
and with their thick armor and
heavy-gauge guns they are almost
unstoppable. They are considered
I superior in gun power, in maneuver-
ability and in the power of their
huge tractor motors to Axis tanks.
