quite a difference in utility bills,

Allen? It’s been 2 months since
we’ve heard a word.
ANSWER—We haven’t heard
anything since that time either,
even though we’re on the mailing
list of the Public Utilities Com-

headquarters in Austin Monday
for an update and guess what—
our telephone was out of order.

ANOTHER example of “the
American dream” of a little
business making it big unfolds
this week.
Moseleys Super Market opened
17 years ago as Crawford and
Moseley in a tiny building in tiny
downtown Allen. Since then, a
lot of things have changed.
The town has increased in size
some 900 percent--and the store
has grown right up with it.
Thanks to a large extent to Liz
Moseley, son Joe, the late Perry
Moseley and the late Fred Craw-
ford and Mrs. Crawford, Allen
has a store which competes with
the finest in the Metroplex.
And Allen has grown from a
town which had only the basic
essentials and a few extras for
sale a decade or so ago to a town
which offers many products for
sale to its residents.
We’re proud of Moseleys—and
Allen--and expect the progress of
both to continue well into the
future.

THOUGH we rate Allen as the
best place to live anywhere, no
place is perfect. And our town
has many “mini” problems. The

ALLEN’S racquet club—which
got off to such a smashing
success with its highly competi-
tive doubles tournament (where
your scribe won a trophy)—has
sunk to what should be an
all-time low.
This week’s singles tournament
was a success in many ways but,.
by a combination of quirks, the
club now seems doomed. Cause
for all the concern, of course, is
the fact that Bill Day-the
wimpy, bony legged excuse of an
athlete--actually won a first
place trophy.
How it happened is too
unbelieveable to relate.
First, many of the top players
in town were unable to compete
for a variety of reasons. At least
2 dozen of those who didn’t sign
up could have whalloped Day.
In fact, Bill would have had
trouble making it past the first
round in the women’s division.

Stray cats are being considered a thorn in Allen--at least
by many folks including the city council. City ordinance .
states all cats must be vaccinated and registered at city *
hall. And owners are subject to fines if they let their cats
run loose.

use the “energy crisis” as a
wedge to open our pocketbooks.
Our Attorney General’s Con-
sumer Protection Division law-
yers say that “con artists” and
deceptive home improvement
contractors or sales persons are
trading heavily this spring on
recommendations “for conserva-
tion” made by energy experts.
However, some of the goods and
services being sold are not likely
to decrease energy consumption
or utility bills very much.
As a guide, federal energy
administrators suggest that
homeowners can experience the
largest savings in energy and
dollars by the following mea-
sures:
1. Proper home insulation.
With at least six inches of
insulation in an attic and no less
than three inches in outside
walls, energy consumption in a
previously uninsulated house
could decrease by as much as 35
percent. Just putting three in-
ches of insulation in an attic can
save about 18 percent in heating
and cooling bills.
2. Weatherstripping and/or
caulking around doors and win-
dows can also produce noticeable
decreases in energy consump-
tion.
3. The installation of storm
