bystander. He asked the young boy what was so
interesting.
"There's a $10 prize under that big pig and if he moves
I'm gonna get it," said the young fellow. Sure enough, his
patience paid off. Several minutes later the hog wobbled
away and the youngster snatched the prize ticket and
started looking for the cashier.
Lovejoy School
needs much help
THERE WERE so many interesting events during the fair
that it's hard to single out any for comment. But we can
thank a group of people headed by Carl and Homer Gilliland
for organizing the fair and we can pledge to do our part to
"do it again" next year.
Anyone who would like souvenirs of the event should
contact Randy Henry at 727-5191. Randy did his usual
thorough job of taking top-quality pictures of the
happenings from beginning to end with probably every
activity included. And he plans to have proofs ready by
Friday at his office in Allen Plaza next to the post office
substation.
If you took part in the fair, chances are you're in at least
one of the pictures.

P. S. As I was taking my
son to school this morning, I
saw two dogs out in the
street. One owner has been
“warned” once. The dog-
catcher had been at the
other owner’s house the
night of the council meeting
(this was the fourth time
since their moving in) and
did not pick up the dog as
he was on the way to the
meeting.
How can these people get
by with this? Seems we
have no rights and no laws
are enforced to help us.
What can be the solution to
this problem?—For a child
to get bit by a rabid dog!!
Then maybe—just may-
be—people will try to
protect people instead of
dogs.

ONE OF THE REAL "FUN” events in Allen history took
place Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The event—which included everything from the birth of a
calf to a broken arm—was fun for everybody, well almost
everybody.
The "newcomer" to the world arrived Saturday just
before the livestock show was due to begin. Unfortunately
for Travis Bullard, his cow gave birth before the judging and
had to miss the event for babysitting purposes. So the
15-year-old Frisco youth had only a calf and not a ribbon to
show for his efforts But at the price of beef these days,
we're sure Travis isn't complaining.
The broken arm belongs to little Susan Johnson, thanks
to the ticket drop. When the prize tickets came floating
down from the sky, the crowd went berserk and trampled
everything between them and the goodies.
Taylor Boon was one casualty, though his wound was
minor. And young Darrell Giles fell victim to some of the
pushing and came up the loser in a battle with a barbed
wire fence. His injury also was minor.
Johnny Pannell reports a bunch of troopers invaded his
household. When a group spotted several tickets landing on
Pannell's house on Ellis Circle, they immediately mapped
battle plans.
One invader opened Pannell's garage door and emerged
with Johnny's ladder. The squad used it to mount the
house and claim the tickets.
Other incidents of fence jumping and garden stomping
also were reported.
One of the event's "good guys" was probably the biggest
winner. Kenneth Gee of 616 Shady Glen, accompanied by
2 brothers, won a wad of prizes including a bicycle, electric
clock, defensive driving course, package of golf balls,
subscription to The American and $10 cash. And they didn't
have to maim a single person to do it. Their secret: "being
at the right place at the right time."

Dear Editor:
I attended the talent show
Friday night in the Allen
High School Gym, seeing
some very entertaining
talent.
These kids have worked
long and hard I am sure; to
say nothing of the special
groups that so graciously
gave their time to entertain
one of the rudest audiences
I have ever seen.
During the entire show
the gym floor was occupied
with at least 15 to 20
kids—not to mention the
adults as well.
It was constant chatter
and confusion. As far as I
could tell the consideration
for the performers was of
the least interest to these
people. The whole program
was a come and go affair, if
the number did not suit the
party then they got up and
left.
I was ashamed and
embarrassed for the enter-
tainers and the parents of
these children.
