Grider gets ’prize'
Alan Grider, FFA advisor at Allen High School,
graciously accepts a belt buckle presented to him
by his students. “All-Around Champion Screw
Up” was the inscription on the buckle, which in
Ronnie Vauhan’s opinion “just fit him”. Vaughan
presented Grider with the buckle on behalf of the
FFA members. Advisor James Cornell was also
honored by Vaughan for his dedication to the
organization.

grew up in Corsicana, and
calls it his ‘'home town”.
He was employed by
Texas Power and Light
Company February 1, 1937
as a clerk and secretary in
the Executive Department
of the Company.
He served in World War
II with the U.S. Army Air
Force from 1942 to 1946 as
a flight radio operator-
flying more than 1,000
hours over four continents.
He was awarded the Air
Medal with Oak Leaf
Cluster after flying 144
trips over “The Hump”—
the Himalayan Mountains
between India and China.
He has also been active
in civic work, having
served as chairman of
several fund drives for
Community Chests. Ameri-
can Red Cross and other
organizations.

Allen High School’s Fu-
ture Farmers of America
Organization held their
annual FFA banquet
Thursday evening in the
D.L. Rountree Cafetorium.
Max Vaughan, vice-su-
perintendent of Allen Pub-
lic Schools, opened the
ceremonies with the invo-
cation.
Dinner was served to 76
FFA members and 88
guests. The menu consisted
of fried chicken, barbecue
beef, barbecue sausage,
barbecue beans, cole slaw,
potato salad, bread, ice
tea and cobbler. Mothers
of FFA members, home-
making students, Max
Vaughan and Leland Mc-
Junkins prepared the din-
ner.
Opening ceremonies of
the meeting were con-
ducted by officers of the
organization. Officers in-
clude Ray Robertson, pres-
ident; Gary Parr, vice-
president; Terry Henrie,
secretary; Donnie Howard,
sentinel; Jim Arnold,
treasurer and Christine
Fowler, reporter. The of-
ficial opening ceremonies
, of the FFA require each
officer to report his duties
and symbol his duty
represents.
FFA Talent Team per-
formed as a special treat to
the audience. Members of
the Talent Team are Ray
Robertson, Terry Renfroe,
Mark Watts, Vickie
Vaughan, Tim Boyles,
Christine Fowler, Clay
Robertson, Ed Lynge and
Steve Whitaker. The Talent
Team recently won the
district contest and will
soon be competing in the
area contest.
Terry Henrie introduced
special guests invited to
the banquet. Ray Robert-
son took the floor to
announce awards given to
FFA members.
