Why We Sell So Many Homes In Allen So Fast!

Mrs. Ruth Shipp has sold her
home on Lucas-Branch Road and
will be moving to a duplex in
Plano. She is looking forward to
returning to Plano from whence
she came years ago. She’ll be
within walking distance of a busy
shopping center and a Methodist
Church, where she plans to wor-
ship. She has long been a member
of the Lucas United Methodist
Church.

Over the years, if you live long
enough, you see folks come and go
— moving in and moving out for a
variety of reasons, and some folks
stick in your mind, while others
are just a dim memory.
Lucas is losing someone next
week, and this particular someone
will be missed by many of us in
Lucas.

returns! Her late husband, John
T. Shipp, was a master mechanic,
owning and operating a garage in
Plano. He was also one of the first
volunteer firemen when that de-
partment was organized in Plano.
Just before he and Ruth moved to
Lucas, they lived 5 years above
the Plano Fire Station where John
was their first paid fireman.
Ruth related that that was much
too confining for them, and they
needed some open space! They
had bought 62 acres in Lucas in
1937, but waited until 1941 to
make their move to the country.
And it was really country then!
Lucas had mostly dirt — or was it
mud? — roads then, and in rainy
weather, folks who lived on the
Branch road would leave their
cars down at the store and walk
home. The telephone service was

Fungicides
can help
landscapes
Almost all plant fungicides
provide disease protection since
they prevent spore germination
and fungal growth on leaf surf-
aces.
Even in low concentrations,
fungicides prevent development of
certain fungi, says James R.
Risinger, county agent with the
Texas Agricultural Extension
Service, Texas A&M University
System.
However, once a fungus pene-
trates the leaf surface, most
fungicides are ineffective, notes
the agent. Therefore, plants, such
as roses, require regular applica-
tions.
Most fungicides are specific in
the types of fungi they will
control. But it isn’t necessary for
a homeowner to have an arsenal of
different fungicides, emphasizes
the agent. Instead, basic fungi-
cide needs should be determined
and then several fungicides should
be bought to meet those needs.
Most fungicides can be mixed
with insecticides to reduce the
amount of effort involved, points
out the agent. However, always
check labels before mixing chem-

Artificial turf, which has
replaced grass in many sports
stadiums, also absorbs much
heat. Janne says that readings
taken some time ago at Busch
Stadium in St. Louis measured air
temperature at 90 degrees. On the
artificial playing surface, how-
ever, the temperature was 123
degrees.

SOILING, STAINS
For general soiling, use warm-
water wash temperature, bleach
that is safe for the fabric, and
adequate amounts of detergent.
For heavy soiling or unusual
stains, presoak — and prespot
when necessary.
As an added precaution for
heavy soil or unusual stains,
check for cleanliness after wash-
ing—and before drying. Dryer
heat can permanently set stains.
