Now’s the time for Beth Israel’s youth
to get on board to compete in the 1999
Maccabi Games to be held here in Hous-
ton at the JCC, August 8-13. For more
information or to sign up, see Rabbi
Gross for registration forms. Teens who
join the Maccabi Club by December 6
have priority to make Team Houston
and participate in the Games.
The Maccabi Games are the largest
gathering of Jewish youth in the world.
The Olympic-style games focus on en-
hancing athletic, social and cultural
growth, contributing to the enrich-
ment of Jewish identity and encourag-
ing physically fit and healthy individu-
als. While Houston area Jewish youth
have always represented our commu-
nity well and have received recogni-
tion and medals, this is the first time
Houston has been chosen as the host
city for the games.
Maccabi athletes participate in base-
ball, basketball, bowling, chess, dance,
golf, gymnastics, racquetball, soccer,
softball, swimming, table tennis, ten-
nis, track & field and volleyball events.
Participation is open to Jewish youth
ages 12-17 years of age. Athletes of
all skill levels are welcome from novice
to competitive.
Be a part of this wonderful event.
See Rabbi Gross for more information
or call the Maccabi Club at the JCC
(713) 729-3200.
