Wayland foils Texan title bid
By Michael Marbach
Sports Editor
It was a combination of
costly fouls and untimely turnovers
that cost the TSU Texan basketball
team ,in the NAIA District VIII
title.
TSU held strong with an
overpowering defense in the first
half, holding the Wayland Baptist
Pioneers to just 25 points.
However, the second half was
different matter. The Pioneers
turned up their play a couple of
notches and scored 58 points in the
second half.
Roderick Brown was
sidelined early with foul trouble and
in the second half there was more
of the same. Brown sat down with
four fouls and 18 minutes to play.
In the first half, Joseph
Chatman was able to come off the
bench and fill Brown's shoes. The
Texans even took a four point lead
and at the half it was 29-25, but
Brown's abscense was felt in the
second.
The Pioneers scored 61
points from in close as their big
men had a field day on the inside.
