VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
From District VIII — Alicia O'Quinn, Sul Ross State University outside hitter, has been named
NAIA District VIII Volleyball Player of the Week lor the week of September 30-0ctober 5.
O'Quinn, 5' 7" senior from El Paso, helped Sul Ross to three District VIII victories (over McMurry,
Dallas Baptist and Midwestern State) and four match wins last week. She had 47 serves with one ace,
66 attacks with 23 kills and nine errors (.212 kill percentage), six blocks, and 50 digs In 13 games.

Javier Garcia ran the fifth an-
nual Tarleton 5000 in just under
sixteen minutes Saturday to claim
first place overall in the competition
held in conjunction with Homecom-
ing activities at Tarleton State Uni-
versity.
Garcia Wee the tape in the 5k
race iit 15:52. Taifena Tammillo was
the first woman to cross the finish
line with a 21:22 marie.
This year's race featured a new
catagory fa- handicapped racers and
the lone entry, 57-year-old R.L.
"Chic" Chadwell finished the race in
23:16.
The race, which covets just over
three miles, began outside the Physi-
cal Education Field Facilities at the
south end of Tarleton's Memorial
Stadium and finished on the Oscar
Frazier track.

NCNC -Stephenville, the race drew
80 runners ranging in ages from seven
to 72.
In addition to recognizing the
first man and first woman to finish
the race, prizes were awarded to the
first, second and third place finishers
for men and women in several age
categories.

Many Tarleton rodeo old timers
and their spouses gathered in the
Erath County Arena last Sunday as
part of Homcoming activities to
participate in the Tarleton Alumni
Rodeo.
Jerry Jetton, thirteen time Na-
tional Finals Rodeo qualifier who
was runner up twice, was on hand to
win the calf roping with a time of
10.2 seconds.
Mark Perish was second in calf
roping with a time of 12.18 seconds
and Robert Berr>> thiid with a 14.9
second run.

In team roping, Clay Stacks and
Ronnie Phillips won with a time of
7.9 seconds. Greg Belcher and
Johnny Casseberry placed second
with a 17.7 second run.
Shanna Sill won barrel racing
with a 17.5 second run. Melody
Perish was second and Angie Bel-
cher was third.
In bareback riding, Greg Bel-
cher won with a 70 point ride. Jay
Miller was second with a 68 and
David Dinkins was 62 points for
third place.
Brent Gluck won the bull riding
competition with a score of 72 points. •
Grady Thomas was second with a 68
aid Mite King was third with 65. ,
The rodeo ran fairly smoothly
and successfully considering the ma-
jority of the club including coach
Randy Magers were still in Alpine
competing in the NIRA rodeo at that
time, club officers said.
" Many alumni thought the stu-
dents put the rodeo on well. We
received many compiments and the
alumni seemed to be having a good
time," TSU rodeo club secretary
Leigh Ann Winter said.
