Tarleton State University
President, Dr. Dennis McCabe,
spoke to the Student Government
Association in a general assembly
meeting on Nov. 18 in the
Student Center.
Dr. McCabe asked for the
members' input on campus life.
"The decisions on this campus are
not only made by administration,
but the students as well," he said.
"I need ideas and comments on
parking, food service, etc." The
president also spoke of the warm
atmosphere displayed at Tarleton.
He said the students here are not
only receiving a formal education,
but a whole life experience. He
also stressed the importance of
leadership and service skills devel-
oped at college.
Next on Dr. McCabe's agenda
was the new Student Development
Center. The student parking lot
on the corner of Lillian and
Vanderbilt is now being surveyed
for the 90,000 square-foot build-
ing. This building will double
the size of the current Student
Center. The floor was then
opened for questions.
In Bart Bradberry's report, he
said that despite low attendance,
Parents' Weekend was successful.
Plans are already being made for
nexr year's schedule. Bradberry
then asked that all members con-
tribute to a Thanksgiving canned
food drive.
Speaker of the Senate, Dusty
Joiner, said the 90-91 yearbook,
The Grassburr, was done quite dif-
ferently than it has been in the
past. Many students would like
to see the coming yearbooks to be
done in the fashion that they used
to be, so Joiner is looking into
that issue.
The senior class met Nov.
13. The main topic of discussion
was rebuilding the cannon. The
only problem the seniors face is
getting a group of people who
will do this task. The freshmen
class met Nov. 14. Their car
wash was once again cancelled and
rescheduled for the last weekend in
February. The Freshman
Representative Council will meet
on Nov. 25, at 5:15 in the
Colorado Room to watch "Where
there's a will, there's an A." Any
student government member is
welcome to attend.
Bills 91001 and 91002 were
unanimously passed by the
Student Government. B*il 91001
states that any member of FRC
cannot be a senator ai:d vice versa.
Bill 91002 states that there will
be a tie breaker in the
Homecoming Queen Election,
Among announcements,
Alpha Zeta, an honorary agricul-
tural fraternity, is selling tickets
for $1 for a VCR tp be given
away on Dec. 2. Tickets may be
purchased from members. Kappa
Delta Rho is raffling off a rifle.
Tickets can be purchased for $2
from a member of the fraternity.
There will.be a choir concert held
on Dec. 2 at 7:30 in the Fine Arts
Building. Several SGA members
will be performing in this concert.
