Defensive driving course offered 'at home'
Area drivers have the
opportunity of experiencing the
next step in correspondence
courses-thanks to a new program
offered through the Division of
Continuing Education at Tarleton
State University. The "take home"
.or "distance learning interactive"
driver safety course is now
available. ,
Offered through the USA
Training Company Inc. of Austin
in conjunction with Tarleton's
Continuing Education program,
the course is taught by video tape
on a computer terminal which the
student takes home'. Activation of
j|syi feat ma am
the computer links the terminal
with the main frame computer in
Houston and as the student
watches the video he or she is
asked to respond to questions.
Students are given three days to
complete the six and one-half hour
course. To keep the program
honest, a series of "authenticating"
questions are asked periodically
with answers that are known only
to a person who signs up for the
course. An incorrect response
results in the student "flunking"
and a completion certificate will
not be issued. The computer can
also detect "fast forwarding" which

is a basis for "failure".
If a student has problems or
questions concerning a particular
portion of the video, an instructor
can be contacted anytime by
telephone. The interactive design
of the course is said to provide a
better learning situation for .the
student and promote improved
retention. ,
Enrollment in the'"take home"
defensive driving course is $39.95
and more information1 on the
program is available by calling
Tarleton's Continuing Education
offices at 817-968-9300.

related planning, organizing

the military intelligence field.
The Army's Military
Intelligence branch is wide open
for many different college degrees
especially for those students who
have majored in foreign language,
government, international
relations, or computer information
systems.
Konczak, who plans to marry
to Tarleton sophomore Amy
Keilers of Stephenville this April,
says he is relieved to know that he
has a job waiting for him after
graduation. "Many of my friends
are still unsure about what they'll
be doing immediately after
graduation," said Konczak. "I'm
very relieved that I don't have to
go out and hunt for a job. I've
worked hard to earn a commission-
in the Army and I'm grateful to
Cadet Command for recognizing
my ability and offering me a full
time job in a field of my choice."
Konczak will take his bride
with him to basic training in
Arizona and the couple will begin
married life with a good starting
salary, free medical and dental
coverage and 30 days of paid
vacation a year. "It's hard to say
whether I'll make a career out of
the military, but I'm leaving all of
my options open," said Konczak.
"I look forward to the challenges
I'll encounter in the military
intelligence field and the
opportunity to command our
country's young enlisted soldiers.
Most of all, I appreciate the
- opportunity to serve my country
as my father did."

Judith Cadle
By Denise Bradford
Staff Writer
Judith (Judye) Cadle,
Accounting Instructor, has skills
that expand outside the
Accounting and CIS department.
Her Educational skills vary.
Mrs. Cadle was bom in Jal,
New Mexico. She received a
Associate Secretarial
Administration Degree from New
Mexico State in '74 while her
husband was earning his masters
there.
She received an Associate
Secretarial Administration Degree
from New Mexico State in '74.
After completing her Associate
Degree and after her husband
completed his Masters, they
moved to Hawaii. Their stay there
was "short and sweet". They then
decided to move back to the
mainland.
After consulting with Dr.
Cadle's professors from New
Mexico he was advised to look
into Tarleton State University.
Judye then started her
undergraduate work here at
Tarleton. She pushed 4 yrs. of
work into a 3 semester period of
completion. While working on
her Bachelors degree she worked as
a secretary for the Business
department at Tarleton. While
working as a secretary, she was
familiarized with the computer
world for that department was one
of the fijrst to have a computer
based system working.
That experience got her more
involved with the CIS department
and made her decide to work at
.Tarleton on her Masters under a
CIS major. She finished her
Masters in only 1 year. She went
on to teach for 12 years , 5 of
which were spent at Tarleton
teaching Accounting and Finance.
She graduated as an outstanding
graduate for the college of
Business Administration.
She isn't only skilled in
Accounting and CIS. She now
studies under Computerized
Accounting.
■ "I - enjoy working with.
Accounting specialists and with
CIS specialists," says Mrs. Cadle
"simply because I'm not either
one but a mixture of the two. "
That mixture helps her better
relate to the students and
understand exactly what goes on in
an accounting or CIS students
mind.
This relationship with the
students will hopefully help her
become a co-sponsor for the
Accounting Society Club. The
club is not only for Accounting
majors but for any type of
business that will have anything
to do with Accounting.
The group is currently under
the sponsor leadership of Linda
Wade. The group currently meets
once a month with a guest speaker
being presented every time. -
While Judith Cadle was
working on her bachelors she was
a member of the Accounting
Society Club.
"It would be an honor for
anyone to become a part of the
club."says Mrs. Cadle "I'm
currently earning my way to my
goal."
Mrs. Cadle helps students and
anyone else understand that
anything that has to do with the
business world "Will more than
likely relate back to computers.
And as long as the world keeps on
developing this way, Mrs. Cadle's
skill will always be needed.
Her skills are being put to
good use here at Tarleton State
University. She now teaches The
principals of Accounting and two
other computer accounting
courses.
