It is admitted in London that

from a 10 days inspection tour
of Ireland, says that the Lloyd
George bill is regarded through-
out Ireland with contempt.

“Of the unfavorable elements
noted, the car and, in some sec-
tions the power, shortage shown
on most railroads is apparently
the most serious. Shortages of
fuel have become acute at large
iron and steel centres, and the
short or irregular supply of coal

on production and shipment be-
cause the lack of usual car supply
also prevents shipment of iron

The two leading trade reviews,
Dun’s ami Bradstreet a conflict
slightly in their analyses of cur-
rent trade. According to Dun’s,
trade is hesitating and uncertain,
while Bradstreet’s report is more
optimistic. Dun’s review says:
“While the predominating con-
dition with domestic producers
and distributors remains one of
inability to fully satisfy all re "
quirements, yet signs of hesita- •
lion in forward commitments are
not wholly absent, ami the ques-
tion is being more frequently i
asked as to how much longer
the rising price trend is likely i
to continue, and whether ele-
ments are not now at work that
may before long bring the inevit-
able reaction. That advances in
Dun’s list of wholesale quota
tions this week are fewer in
number than last week is not ne-
cessarily an indication of a de-
finite check to the upturn, and it
is conceivable that prices of
some commodities for which the
demand largely exceeds the
available supply, such as iron
and steel and textiles, may go
still higher.”
Bradstreet’s review says:
“Car shortages, wintry weath- .
er, and the prevailing influenza
epidemic have been responsible
for a slowing down in some lin- e
still fighting and very excited.
Those who sent messages said it
was their work to calm newcom-
