the report when it says the popu-
lation of the county is 9,957. We
had 11,265 people in 1920. Last
year no one could be had to take
the enumeration, they were all
to busy picking cotton at three
or four dollars per hundred and
gathering pecans at $15.00 per
day. This county has several
hundred more people than it had

of the ladies of the county. Even
if our women are now given the
right of suffrage, the home arts
will continue to flourish as they
have heretofore. Everything that
goes to make homelife plesat
and comfortable was to be found
products of the kitchen, pre-
serves, flowers, dresses, TAnry
work, tatting, etc.- the one art
that has been lost in the course
of time is the wearing of cloth.
The products of the ranch, of all
kinds, of stock and poultry, wool
and mohair were to be seen. Of
cattle there was the finest kind
Hereford and of hogs a two year
old 800 pounder attracted wide
attention.
Several of our enterprising
merchants had booths in the ex-
hibition hall, agricultural imple-
ments of the latest kind were on
the grounds and several outside
manufactures displayed their
products.
Hopf’s military band furnished
music for the three days of the
fair and we are certainly proud
of possessing such a good musical
organization of local talent. Other
amusements were furnished by
an Amusement Company which
with their Merry Go Round fur-
nished diversion for many a
youngster. On each afternoon
races were held and baseball
games were played. A youngster
of about fourteen showed his
skill in walking on a stretched
wire, he performed marvelous
stunts. In the evenings there
were dances at the Fair Grounds
and other attractions and dances
in the halls in town. •
The attendance was very large,
it undoubtedly surpassed any
preceding Fair. On the first day

at 1 p. m. all business houses
closed, yet the attendance on
this day was far behind the other
two days. Conservative men es-
timate the attendance on each of
the last two days at from 7000
to 8000, Visitors came from all
the surrounding counties, it is
impossible to mention all these
visitors by name. The admission,
50c, was very reasonable — at
Boerne the admission was 75c
and our Fair was fully as good,
what it fell short in comparison
to the Boerne Fair in the exhibi-
tion hall it gained in the live
stock exhibition.
These, few days proved conclu-
sively that there is nothing that
advertises a community as a Fair,
that there is nothing to stimulate
the citizens of a community to
greater exertion in all lines of
production as a Fair. The citi-
zens of the county as well as of
the neighboring counties and
cities all seemed to have come
out to support morally and fi

Hon. .John H. Kirby of Hous-

for years an influential member
of the democratic party in Texas
gave out a statement last Sun-
day that he would not support
the democratic party this year.
“The democratic party in honey
combed with socialism and its
continuance in power will imperil
the republic,’’ said Mr. Kirby. “I
can not conceive of the people

my party when for eight years
we have constantly increased

It is impossible to do justice<
in a brief description to the ex-
hibits and we shall attempt to
mention briefly only what was
exhibited. The agricultural de-
partment showed farm products
as good as found anywhere. A
county that has better and larger
pumpkins and melons to show
will not be found everywhere.
Handicraft work for men showed
