alone. This North-Texas area has become an industrial center in the last
twenty years. Prior to that time relatively few basic industries were in the
area, and the greatest percentage of consumer goods were shipped in from the
north and east. Such industrial giants as the aircraft, automobile and elec-
tronics industries have made the most impressive additions to the economy,
however, numerous consumer goods manufacturers have moved in to fill the
previous void. As new plants have been established to furnish these consumer
needs, a completely new field of opportunity has opened. This is the suppliers
of industrial parts, machinery, equipment, sub-assembly and service work. The
whole industrialization of the area has been in the nature of a chain reaction.
The last, and largest, link to the chain, from a population standpoint, is the
vast number of service businesses brought to the area to serve the people
employed in the basic industries. Experience has shown that the population
of an area increases in the ratio of about seven persons for each new basic
industrial job created.
